No more repeats!

He finally quit repeating the same info over and over again, not a single reference to how Sandy got his name!

Endless repetition of story kills the series

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The author apparently believes that each book in this 7 book series must stand alone so in each of the consecutive books he constantly stops to explain character, cultural, and political history, the technology and the events and outcomes of previous books. It feels like, by the time you're up to book 4 that half of each book is spent talking about material already covered in earlier books and the advancement of the story line slows to a crawl. The author could have written this entire story arc in 4 books if not for this drudgery of endless repetition. I do like the storyline, but with each successive book there is less and less to hold your attention. The narrator is very good, but I will not endure another series by Ian Douglas.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The multi universe aspect was interesting. The endless repetition of background content from previous books is soul killingly boring.

Too repetitive

Too much repetition in descriptions...this is the four or fifth in the series there is no need to continually try to introduce the reader to concepts from the earlier books. Also too much physics explanations verse expanded dialogue and character development.

Amazing of course

Loved it, heavy science and math that really draws you in. Perfect military futuristic science fiction.

Repetitive descriptions are annoying

This series by Douglas is AWESOME. Yes, my review title sounds like a criticism, and I gave it 4 stars overall. However, in spite of the criticism to follow, this is still one of the best, most addictive hard sci-fi literature series I've ever read.

That said, Douglas tries WAY too hard to allow each book to stand on its own outside of the series. In the attempt, he repeats explanations and back story ad nauseam- not just from one book to the next, but repeatedly within a single novel. I can see the need for some explanation of the most important concepts to the main story arcs in each novel, but not to the level of depth and repetition he takes it.

The criticisms aside, I'm anxious about there only being one more book in the series. I've flown through the first 6 books in under two weeks. I'm going to be in vacuum, searching for my next hard sci-fi fix, after finishing book seven.

I may have to take a stroll down a different literary path for a while after this series, because I have already read most of the best hard sci-fi written in the last 50 years, and not much of the new stuff compares with the quality of this epic series.

It's okay.

This book was okay but lacked the spark that the other books had. It's still a good read just hope there are many more books to the series.

Caught in a loop

This book has a quick fix ending that puts you right back where you started at the end of book 3. Just felt like more and more of the same story. Some interesting space battles, but that's it.

Good ending, but the beginning was slow.

Where does Deep Time rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Ian Douglas is my favorite sci-fi author. I think this would have been a better story with less time on Earth in the beginning. I hope there is a book 6!

Sci-fi and real science

I just love how the author integrates real science within the context of sci-fi. Not only is it entertaining but also informative and educational. Just the way I like.
