Publisher's Summary

Widowed and officially retired, Eugeena Patterson throws herself into organizing the neighborhood association. This presents a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends and get to know new neighbors, like recently widowed Amos Jones - that is until Eugeena stumbles upon her estranged neighbor’s dead body. Eugeena’s daughter is fingered as a prime suspect, but where is she?

Determined to find her missing daughter, Eugeena and Amos sort through a list of neighbors with shady or unknown backgrounds. The more she searches, the more Eugeena becomes unsure about this neighborhood association idea. Someone closer than Eugeena thinks wants to keep it that way.

Disappointed

I didn't care for this book at all!. The main character was annoying. The writing was all over the place.
I feel like I wasted a credit.

A Mystery Book for Christians

Hard to get through if your not a Christian, skip it. Also alot of old school "stick by your man no matter how miserable you are" bs too.

Deep Fried Nothing?

This poor attempt to mirror The Mahalia Watkins mysteries was disastrous. One fish fry throughout the entire book and a breakfast or two was cooked. Why is “deep fried” in the text? Is this related to the South? Black people? ??? The title makes no sense. The characters are flawed. Her conversations with her adult children are weak and misplaced. The women... Unwanted pregnancies by an unmarried and married woman with male counterparts who are useless. All of the marriages described are sad and worthless. A baby mama’s excitement over $1500 and post-partum depression rounded this whole mess of a tale up for me. Also, there were too many loose ends at the end of the book and Tyora Moody was clearly grasping for straws. Not only that, Mrs. Patterson was a teacher so at times, her vernacular would not have been that of a person who misused“you”
for “you’re or your” please!

Hits the "High" and the "Low" Points

I loved the narrator's slow, thoughtful voice, especially for Eugeena. This story hits all the "high points"..YHWH, being a good neighbor, older mentoring the younger, mother-bear instincts and restoration....and the "low points" murder, jealousy and theft. It's lighthearted fun, the kind I often need between more intense reads. I immediately came to care about the characters. So much so that midway through, I stopped, researched and bought 3 more stories. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

So cute

I am beginning to like these "whodunit" stories. I like that it is being told from an older person's point of view. Good story, good narration.

Easy Listening

This is a very enjoyable book. I added it to my list of favorites. The storyline captured & held my attention; I was eager to find out what happened next. The main character is spunky, funny and much of her story is relatable. The narrator tells this story exceedingly well giving the listener a front porch view of this neighborhood.

Good & Suspenseful

Loved listening to it and enjoyed the Black culture sprinkled throughout. I also appreciated the brevity of this mystery novel.
