Publisher's Summary

John Porter, hero of the original Strikeback novel and TV series, returns in an exciting adventure when old enemies attack the SAS.

It's 1999. A bitterly cold morning in the Brecon Beacons, and the soldiers trying out for SAS Selection are preparing to face their toughest test yet. Overseeing the soldiers is John Porter: once a promising young Blade, now a broken man and a drunk, seeing out his days in the Regiment Training Wing.

But before the Fan Dance can begin, six masked gunmen carry out a devastating attack. Dozens of soldiers are killed. In the aftermath of the massacre, and with a government desperate for action, Porter and another surviving operator, John Bald, are taken to a secretive briefing in London. Their orders - to hunt down and kill those responsible for the attack.

What follows is a deadly game of kill or be killed as Bald and Porter lead a Strike Team across Europe on a blood-soaked mission of revenge. But as they draw closer to their ultimate target, the men discover that there is a greater threat - much closer to home....

I'm in two minds about this

I have read and listened to the odd Chris Ryan book and I don't expect Shakespeare. What I have found is the stories have a good pace and quite a bit of action. This is no exception. The pace is good and the hero John Porter ( Strike Back both book and TV ) is known and is a relatively sympathetic character. Mr Ryan adds lots of little technical details that many forget ( apart from the late Tom Clancy ) he also adds some " interesting comparisons" which are worth watching out for.

My biggest complaint and the reason the story doesn't get 4 or 5 stars is the language. I'm not a prude by any means but his liberal use of the "C" word nearly made me return this audio book after 10 minutes of listening. I know these words are used and would expect then but to the extent they are used in this - well personally I felt it was an overkill.

The performance by Barnaby Edwards lacks a little excitement at times. His speaking voice is clear and thankfully unlike some performers he pronounced all the words correctly. Seeing his name as performer would not stop me listening to a book and perhaps I've been a little harsh with a 3

Overall I did enjoy it and would recommend it

One of Chris Ryan's bests!

This is the first audio booked I have listened to for a number of years. I am a massive Chris Ryan fan, read all of his Danny Black series books and this doesn't disappoint. It keeps you on edge and excited, honestly this book has it all as you go on the journey. The voice actor is great, what more can I say?

Excellent narration of a good action adventure

Barnaby Edwards is about the best narrator I have heard on Audible. I look forward to him narrating another action adventure like this one. As for the story it is a good and fast paced story. I will certainly listen to a sequel.

Amateurish

Dated language sexist too, too much of ‘the men’ when it was males and ‘the girls’ if females. Wouldn’t recommend.

What a great reader! The story was fast paced and exciting. So glad I could listen to it. Eye strain is worse than "ear strain"!

Shit and Rubbish.

This author has become tired and predictable. No wonder it. Was sent to television. Sad sad sad.

In progress

Currently listening to this very exciting book with good narration. But am SO tired of the author's use of guy or guys. Starting to cringe every time I hear these words ... again! Chris Ryan could you not find any other words to describe the players in your book?

One the battle lost the war

Powerful gripping story, brutal harrowing realism, engaging all the way, yet me made me feel sorry for the two main characters as the story is set in the late 90'S. Today (2018) they would be in their 50-60"s I feel any many ways the characters would have mixed depressive emotions looking back fought to revenge their brothers yet killed those fighting the impending Islamization of Western Europe.
These men are extraordinarily tough, hard soldiers makes me realise how special those qualities are in Men. First time I have read this Author and will continue on this journey. Dam Good.
