Publisher's Summary

If you haven't already fallen in love with the internationally acclaimed M.C. Beaton, then this audiobook filled with her trademark wry wit and a wonderfully puzzling plot will do the trick.

When Hamish Macbeth - Lochdubh's one-man police force - awakens one morning with a killer toothache, the only dentist who will see him immediately is Dr. Gilchrist. The dentist is infamous for some unsavory womanizing and his use of "The Great Australian Trench", a practiced slip of the drill that mars several teeth and ensures a return customer.

Unfortunately for Hamish, and Gilchrist, someone has canceled all the doctor's appointments - permanently. A toothache can drive a man mad, and Hamish, with a mouth full of throbbing pain, decides to go after the killer alone.

LOTS OF FUN

This was my first MC Beaton download and I though it was just great. Many very interesting characters. The narrator did a fantastic job as well. I would highly recommend this book.

Always enjoy Hamish

This was another good Hamish MacBeth story. They are made even better by Davina Porter's narration.

Reader problem

I really like the Hamish Macbeth series. Up to now I have listened to the latest books not the early ones. The reader has always been male since Hamish Macbeth is the main character. This book however, has a female reader, Davina Porter. I am conflicted in giving her a bad review because she is excellent on female voices, but my problem was with the tone she used for Macbeth. I could never tell when he was speaking or differentiate between voices in a scene when he was one character and the other was a female. The voice might have been ok for a small, thin, librarian, but it did not match the description of Hamish. It was so frustrating I almost just stopped and turned the book back in even though the plot was good. I repeat that she is very good in many ways...I just wish she could have pulled a voice out of herself that, even though not perfect, was more of a match for Hamish Macbeth.

Davina Porter wonderful as usual

Not one of MCBeaton’s finest. A little forced and Hamish often comes out acting poorly, losing reader sympathy

not a series for female reader

I really wanted one of the performer of the first 12 books. Barring that, a Hamish MacBeth story really NEEDS a male reader. Maybe I am just spoiled, but; . . . that is my opinion.
Don't get me wrong, th reader of this book did a great job with the Outlander series. But she is a poor choice for the hardcore Hamish fans like me.

Great fun

A relaxing, witty listen. As a hard-core Agatha Raisin fan, this was my first foray into to the world of Hamish and very enjoyable it was! Full of witty banter and an enjoyable storyline. The narration was excellent. I will be going on to listen to further escapades of the lovely Hamish.
