Publisher's Summary

The never before told story of radical suffragette Kitty Marion. Historian Fern Riddell finds a hidden diary and uses Kitty's own words to tell the story of her sensational life and explosive actions.

Kitty Marion was sent across the country by the Pankhurst family to carry out a nationwide campaign of bombings and arson attacks, as women fought for the vote using any means necessary. But in the aftermath of World War One, the dangerous and revolutionary actions of Kitty and other militant suffragettes were quickly hushed up and disowned by the previously proud movement, and the women who carried out these attacks were erased from our history. Now, for the first time, their untold story will be brought back to life.

Telling a new history of the women's movement in the light of new and often shocking revelations, this book will ask the question: why has the life of this incredible woman, and the violence of the suffragettes been forgotten? And, 100 years later, why are women suddenly finding themselves under threat again?

Revealing an Untold History

What we know of the Suffragettes and their movement comes to us highly sanitised. This book reveals the violence the women took part in- so much so that public buildings often took out specific Suffragette insurance in the early 20th century, something I was completely unaware of. A truly fascinating listen, well written and we'll read.

Exquisite!

What an amazing piece of history. Something all women, in fact all people should read.
Listening to this book has been an education and I’ve learned to much about women’s suffrage as a result.
Beautifully read by the author. I didn’t want it to end. Thank you

Emmeline Pankhurst sounds like Margaret Thatcher

I've been an Audible member for many years, but I've never written a review before. Sorry that my first review isn't a favourable one. I'm only half-way through, but the subject matter of the book is fascinating - I never knew that the suffragettes used such violence. Unfortunately, for me the narrator (who is also the author) lets it down. She has a pleasant, high voice but it does sound like a schoolgirl reading out her history essay. And the 'extras' - did Emmeline Pankhurst really speak like Margaret Thatcher? Instead of listening to the words, I found myself thinking that if Kitty Marion was German and didn't learn English until she came to the UK aged 15, surely she would have had a slight German accent? And Marie Lloyd's name was mispronounced...
These sound like little niggles I know, but I'm going to do something I've not done before - stop listening to the audio version and buy the book!
