Publisher's summary

Jaine has been hired by uber-pushy stage mom Heather Van Sant to write lyrics for her daughter Taylor's song in the talent competition for the Miss Teen Queen America pageant. It's different from anything Jaine has done before, but if nothing else, she's looking forward to a free weekend in a swanky hotel and a chance to see what really goes on backstage at a beauty pageant.

But the hotel is a dump, the cattiness is out of control, and Candace - the perfectly coiffed, whip-cracking pageant director - is making even Jaine's life miserable. When Candace's assistant, Amy, is found bludgeoned to death with a silver tiara, there are more suspects than sequins on a pageant gown - and Heather is first on the list.

New Narrator

I didn’t care for the new narrator. She was too dull. A bit more animation would have made it better.

Give Jaine a break

I have enjoyed reading every book in this series. However, they are becoming tedious. Jaine's character needs to grow a backbone . She does stand up for herself, but, it doesn't happen until the end of the book. I want Jaine to have a happy ending, but not at the expense of every other character in the book. The mystery was simple and predictable. I hope the next book is better.

Cats, Mystery, and Laughs!

With three of my favorite things - cats, humor, and mystery - this series has quickly become my favorite!! Every book has a twist that keeps you guessing! The author writes very quirky and unique, yet believable, characters.

The main character is a very average and thus relatable woman. I love that she isn't perfect, and that we can laugh about it. We even get to hear about her parents antics in their retirement community. These books never fail to make me laugh out loud - with help from a fantastic narrator who has perfect delivery! She gives the characters unique voices too, so you're never confused as to who is speaking.

If you love to laugh and you enjoy cozy mysteries, give this series a try!

Not Brittany Pressley

So unless Brittany Pressley’s voice deepened significantly and she started pronouncing things differently than in the previous Jaine Austen mysteries this narrator is NOT Brittany Pressley.
The story was a typical Jaine Austen mystery, I wish she’d get her P.I. license it’s not like it would make things much simpler and she could still lie if she wanted but it really annoys me that as much as Jaine likes to solve mysteries she won’t get the license.
