Publisher's summary

Lindsay Powell's only secret is the recipe for her chocolate chip cookies, but she is surrounded by neighbors with deadly secrets. Suddenly Lindsay finds herself battling poisoned chocolate, a dead man who doesn't seem very dead, and a psycho stalker. Her best friend and co-worker, Paula, dyes her blond hair brown, hides from everybody, and insists on always having an emergency exit from any room. Secrets from Paula's past have come back to put lives in jeopardy. Determined to help Paula and to save her own life, Lindsay enlists the reluctant aid of another neighbor, Fred, an OCD computer nerd. In spite of his mundane existence, Fred possesses tidbits of knowledge about such things as hidden microphones, guns, and the inside of maximum security prisons. Lindsay needs more than a chocolate fix to survive all this chaos.

WONDERFUL BOOK, THE READER WILL GROW ON YOU

Where does Death by Chocolate rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The book is one of my favorite - the whole series is awesome, very funny!

Any additional comments?

One of my favorite authors - I can hardly wait for the next in the series. I love mysteries that make me laugh and this series does that. I didn't care for the reader at first but I love the book so much I kept listening and by the end of the book she had grown on me. She is able to do different voices to distinguish between characters and that is important to me. If you don't like the reader just keep listening but if you can't get used to her just read the book - you won't be sorry.

Decent story, bad narration.

The story is fine, if a little predictable, but the narration is bad. Ms. Gregg makes her best friend sound like a hoarse mouse and the men like wooden soldiers. Painful to listen to.

one of the characters has a painful voice

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The story is ok but one of the characters has a voice too painful to listen to and the lead character lets her husband just walk all over her throughout the whole book.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would have given the main character a back bone with her ex.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I really hated the best friends voice. I would flinch every time I heard it, which is a lot.

Any additional comments?

The second book is much better.

Love this!

Would you consider the audio edition of Death by Chocolate to be better than the print version?

I think it's a wonderful companion to the book. I love the way the narrator brought the nuances of the story to life. Sally Berneathy is a wonderful story teller. The narrator had the right nuance and pauses to bring Lindsay to life. Well done. Hope these team up again for another story.

Which character – as performed by Sarianna Gregg – was your favorite?

Lindsay is the bomb. So fearless!!

Fun and funny

Berneathy created an interesting cozy that holds you to the end. Gregg’s narration is good, though some of the dialogue sounds too similar causing confusion about who’s talking. Also, her male voices are so so. But her Lindsey is great. Yes - do listen! You’ll enjoy this.

Good story the narrator was hard to follow

The narrator used odd speech patterns with the main character's voice and it was difficult to discern the thoughts from speech. Some of the characters sounded so similar you lost the thread of the story.

Poor narration

I think this is one of those books I might have enjoyed reading, but I did not enjoy listening to at all. The narration took away from the content to the extent where I began to cringe every time she emphasized the name "Rick". Okay, we get it. Rick is a louse. That sort of thing. Also the voices of some of the other characters were so annoying. Not the best audio book.
