Publisher's summary

This first installment of a cozy mystery series transports listeners back to the bygone era of 1923 Britain, where unflappable flapper and fledgling journalist Daisy Dalrymple daringly embarks on her first writing assignment, and promptly stumbles across a corpse.

No stranger to sprawling country estates, wealthy Daisy Dalrymple is breaking new ground in having scandalously traded silver spoon for pen and camera to cover a story for Town and Country magazine. But her planned interviews with the inhabitants of Wentwater Court give way to interrogation after suave Lord Stephen Astwick meets a dire fate on the tranquil skating pond.

Armed with evidence that his fate was anything but accidental, Daisy joins forces with Scotland Yard to examine an esteemed collection of suspects and to see that the unlikely culprit doesn't slip through their fingers just as the unfortunate Astwick slipped through the ice.

Fun, 20's era mystery-I love Daisy Dalrymple

I just discovered this fun series this past winter. I actually started with one of the later ones in the series and fell in love with Daisy Dalrymple! This series, set in the 20's reminds me a bit of the Jeeves and Wooster books, which I also love. The "By Jingo's," "Old Bean" and other such expressions make this a very enjoyable listen! This book is just introducing all the characters and each successive book adds more details, so you keep wanting more of Daisy's exploits. So far Blackstone Audio has agreed to do the first 4 in this series, and I hope they decide to do all of them. For a great change of pace in your listening routine, you won't go wrong with this book! Sit back, relax, and meet the irrepresible Daisy and all her chums.

WONDERFUL ALL THE WAY..until the end

Great characters. I like the plucky, common sense, not too reckless heroine. I also like the interplay with the Inspector as it is more believable than the false type of animosity that is used to build tension. It is easy and pleasant to listen too. . However, I was disappointed at the end when (SPOILER ALERT) Daisy arranges to have the guilty party escape so as not to face charges and not create pain for those involved she has come to like. Even though it might have been for the "right reasons", it didn't sit well, even as a lite mystery story. And then to have the police somehow unbelievably agree, it just seemed wrong. I understand justice and fairness (and even Hercule Poirot let some guilty go free as it was the right thing to do), but here it did not seem warranted or just. Still, I will continue with another book or two in the series as I do like the main characters. The audio presentation was great too.

Yum!

The only problem with Carola's books are that I just want to keep listening, wherever I am, until it's finished. Such a fun listen! Audible needs more of her books.

Roaring Twenties in England

This is a great, fun cozy mystery 😊 not to be taken too seriously. I love Daisy Darylmple, who is a gal way ahead of her time, traveling to Wentwater Court to write an article for Town and Country magazine. Full of the cream of the crop of England's elite society, Daisy is determined to make it on her own, and not be married off as the girls of her time are expected to do. Doing her own photography, as well as writing, she's a smart and pretty girl, although she hates the small mole on her face (that some consider a beauty mark). Not far into her visit at Wentwater Court, Daisy finds a corpse in the skating pond early in the morning. She takes several photographs . . . which lead to a disturbing discovery. When Scotland Yard's Detective Chief Inspector Alec Fletcher shows up to conduct the investigation, Daisy notices right away how handsome the young officer is. The conversations with the folks are a lot of fun to listen to. I wasn't sure what I thought of the ending at first, but I have to admit it is par for the course with the upper crust . . . and Daisy, well, as I said, she has a heart of gold. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Sweet book

I really liked this book. I'm so excited that it's included in the audible membership. It's a fun and easy listen. I didn't know who the murderer was and why until it was revealed, which is great. The narrator did a wonderful job.

Fun!!!

Fun read. My first book by Carola Dunn. I will read more, especially Daisy Dalrymple series. Daisy was a woman ahead of her time, precocious and intelligent. I hope that things continue with her and Alex. I listened on audible and the narrator was easy on the ears and delineated the characters well. The only thing is, being a southern girl, I didn't realize that the society in England used the word "reckon" - lol.

Great cozy mystery!

It’s a wonderful cozy mystery. The narrator could use some practice on accents. Enjoy the book.

Good Story

Enjoyed story, characters, plot, and scene, all of which produced a cracking good tale of murder, unrequited love, true love, despicable villan, i.e. victim. worth the trip to read or listen along with Daisy Delrimple!!!
