Publisher's summary

Welcome back to The Waiting Mortuary where being dead doesn’t always mean the end.

It's been a long time since Jack Skilton wrote an article for The Westport Press, but when rumors of a sinister presence lurking inside the waiting mortuary begins to spread, he's sent to Kessler's Funeral Home to investigate a possible haunting. What he discovers will definitely make front-page news if only he can live long enough to write about it.

Find out what happens in this horror thriller with supernatural elements for audiences who enjoy listening at breakneck speed. Be warned! This story is not for the faint of heart. What begins as a mystery will evolve into total terror.

Don’t miss Death Watch, the third book in The Waiting Mortuary series by L.V. Pires. Although in a series, this novel can also stand alone.

For fans of Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Richard Laymon, Bentley Little, as well as other horror and mystery authors such as Dan Simmons, Jack Ketchum, Robert McCammon, Brian Keene, and Darcy Coates.

Great Audio!

I listened to this audio version of the novel on a long drive and even though I needed to stop to use the restroom and get gas, I kept going to hear what would happen next. Great reading by Chris Brantley! Definite edge-of-your-seat thriller. I loved the characters and creepy setting. It's Book 3 in the series but stands alone.

The old man wasnt right, but he wasnt wrong either

This third installment in 'The Waiting Mortuary' series is yet another departure from the original. I'm kinda seeing the series as a sort of anthology at this point. You have the story revolve around the waiting mortuary, but most the characters change, leaving the story plenty of room to evolve. I'm not going to go into specifics, however where as the 1st book was more down to earth, this book is very supernatural. I would recommend the story and the series to a horror fan.

The darkest tale from the Waiting Mortuary

Received as an audio review copy from Story Origin, this is an honest review. Exceptionally narrated by Chris Brantley, Death Watch is the third book of the Waiting Mortuary series and this ship smart, darkly intense and poignant story readers have come to expect from this author. For local journalist Jack Skilton, has struggled to keep his son Braxton out of the clutches of deadly drugs that could claim his life at any turn; and at the same time salvage his career at the Westport Press. Now Jack finds himself tracking down what's the truth behind rumors of something dark haunting the former Kessler Funeral Home that's become a den for drugs and the homeless with not where else to go. It's at the waiting mortuary that gets to know Alfred's daughter Cassandra, who is seeking finding peace coming on the heels her father's death. And within the ruined building they both are forced to face a harrowing creature that is leaving its own mark upon its victims and it's only just the beginning as this city seems to attract the darkest of souls like never before and shatters both Jack and Cassandra lives once the dust settles.

Highly recommended.

Mixed feelings on this one

I felt the main character, Jack, was too obsessed with his drug addict son and the owner (daughter of previous owner. The pacing of the story would speed up and then slow down. I was a little disappointed to discover the "monster" in the mortuary wasn't as bad as the human criminal behind so many deaths. Yes there were ghosts in the mortuary and probably a demon, but that seemed only a small part of the story. So much focused on Jack and the human killer. There were some good parts of the book (ringing of the bell) and people with no hearts. All in all in wasn't a bad read, just not what I expected.

I received a copy of this book from StoryOrigin and this is my honest review.

Scary-horror 3-shot, complete!

Conclusion to trilogy. It’s not as sharp a bite as the first two but worth your time.

Delve into horror...

Delve into horror... we did along with brutality, supernatural & an riveting story line. I wasnt sure how it would flow with the first two books. I was glad to see it take off on a fresh storyline and using the first two books as platforms. It appears it may have left an opening for a 4th book to follow up .I liked the new characters which were introduced & the way some of the old characters appeared. I enjoyed the whole series and would definitely listen/read again. Thank you for the company on my long car rides each day It made the rides go a lot faster.

I Couldn't Stop Listening

If you're looking for the perfect summer listen, this one is a winner. I had to know what happens next. All the stories about the waiting mortuary give me chills. This one had all the dark, eerie tones of a good horror read and the ending once again doesn't disappoint.
