2017 Audie Award Finalist for Narration by the Author

A wonderfully unconventional literary debut from the award-winning actress Mary-Louise Parker.

An extraordinary literary work, Dear Mr. You renders the singular arc of a woman's life through letters Mary-Louise Parker composes to the men, real and hypothetical, who have informed the person she is today. Beginning with the grandfather she never knew, the letters range from a missive to the beloved priest from her childhood to remembrances of former lovers to an homage to a firefighter she encountered to a heartfelt communication with the uncle of the infant daughter she adopted. Listeners will be amazed by the depth and style of these letters, which reveal the complexity and power to be found in relationships both loving and fraught.

Featured Article: Celebrity Women with Must-Listen Audiobook Memoirs

Female writers comprise a broad group (pun intended), but we're especially partial to celebrity memoirs and essay collections—so much so that they have become foolproof listening-slump busters. Always, always go with the audiobook if it’s narrated by the celebrity. Rather than sitting down with a book, it feels like hanging out with a friend who has endless stories. Here are some memoirs by awesome women, narrated by said awesome women.

Profoundly moved and delighted

This book was like a long weekend away at an Inne with an old ms dearest of friends as she reminisced about her dad, her family and long lost loves - I listened in my car via Audible and feel that the book became 'alive' to me because Mary Louise read the letters to me. As the memory keeper in my family it made me long to write my own stories - to tell our learnings and to share that which I have evolved to comprehend and discern into prose. This book is a promise kept. This is a book about promises to come. This is a book that lingers with my soul and intertwined and wraps my heart with genuine wath. As the harmonica closes out the story a smile will form on your face. I feel so special to have had but a glimpse into the soul of a fellow sojourner .

We have all loved, we have all regretted, we have all reconciled and all lost in the name of relationships. From the wreck less abandonment of new love to the poetry of commitment told they the eyes of her mom and dad - Mary Louise gives a poignant performance worthy of praise. Well done Mary Louise- you've made a difference in me and I will cherish your book. Thank you very much for scribing the etchings of your heart!

Uplifting for Males

As a male, this book lifted my spirits. There are females that appreciate us. They understand us. We are not a threat to them. I appreciate Mary-Louise reading her book.

A brilliant autobiography!!!

I've always thought that Mary-Louise Parker was a beautiful but strange woman. Her book only verifies that. What a strange and amazing autobiography! Every chapter is a letter dedicated to someone (teachers, mentors, guys she dated, taxi drivers, even NASA), and she starts getting into their relationship with them, whatever that was. But she goes DEEP!

Without filter or shame, the author truly opens her heart and reveals many things about herself, was she's gone through, her mistakes and regrets. It's a little depressing at times, you can feel the rage through her words, the irony, the pain, the regret... But there's also love, honesty and an incredibly poetic writing. She's a woman that knows her ability and and knows to use it, how to manipulate you as a reader and make you feel deep, hard, strong. The audiobook is a roller coaster, her talent for acting is amazing and you feel it while she talks.

I think there's no other autobiography I've read (maybe Sally Field's "In Pieces") that is so raw, so exposed. It feels like you're watching a beating heart, exposing all the scars and the blood going through it, still alive and beating hard. Parker has gone through A LOT, and there's nowhere else where you can learn about it, in the roughest and more astonishing way you can think of.

P.S. Her father is an AMAZING character. He's all over the last chapter and it's unbelievable. It'll give you chills and bring you tears.

Awesome reader

I really loved this one. Not always can an author read her/his own book well, but mlp does it well. Her varied letters carry all possible emotions, her own as well as her reader responses. I like that each letter is a new chapter which makes it easy to revisit. Most letters are under 15 mins so it's also a good book to pick up and allow for interruptions. The author is warm, funny, loving, pragmatic and philosophical. It's entertaining and thoughtful. A worthy use of my time.
