Publisher's summary

In her hit Netflix comedy special Baby Cobra, an eight-month pregnant Ali Wong resonated so strongly that she even became a popular Halloween costume. Wong told the world her remarkably unfiltered thoughts on marriage, sex, Asian culture, working women and why you never see new mum comics onstage but you sure see plenty of new dads.

The sharp insights and humour are even more personal in this completely original collection. She shares the wisdom she's learned from a life in comedy and reveals stories from her life offstage, including the brutal single life in New York (i.e., the inevitable confrontation with erectile dysfunction), reconnecting with her roots (and drinking snake blood) in Vietnam, tales of being a wild child growing up in San Francisco and parenting war stories. Though addressed to her daughters, Ali Wong's letters are absurdly funny, surprisingly moving and enlightening (and gross) for all.

Surprisingly sweet

It’s a book written by Ali Wong so of course I laughed but unexpectedly I cried. I cried and cried and cried. This book is about family in the most beautiful way.

Heartwarming, funny, and wise

I never expected this book to reach me so far down into my soul and in particular the last chapter took me by surprise. I hope you enjoy it too.

Sooooo great - Wong fan won't be disappointed

This is hilarious as you'd expect, but I also found this to be engaging, moving and very honest. I didn't know much about Wong before this; having finished it, I admire her enormously, and really wish there was a part 2. Wong's husband Justin Hatuka gets the last chapter which is a lovely surprise as we hear so much about him.

My favourite Audiobook

This book is hilarious, touching and wholesome all in one. It made me laugh and it made me cry. An insightful read/listen into the world of new parenting and growing up Asian in America. Ali Wong is the bomb.

bloody loved it

I love Ali's comedy shows. I love it for the raw honesty, crass language and relatable life stories. She gives you all of that and more. There are such important messages being told to her girls that everyone should have been told growing up. Without actually intending to, or maybe it was intentional, I learnt a lot about the different Asian cultures and the early struggles of immigration. Such a great read.

Touching & witty

I laughed out loud. I cried. I was totally moved by this open and honest letter to daughters. It should be mandatory for all parents to write a book. Thanks for sharing Ali x

An absolute gift and joy x

To be allowed into such an intimate, honest and genuine message to Ali's children was so beautiful and heartwarming. Many good stories and hilarious valuable advice for anyone to appreciate. An honour, thanks Ali x

Insightful, Funny and Intelligent Memoir

Ali Wong provides a refreshingly blunt set of letters giving insight into the world of standup, and balancing being a working mother and wife. Addressed primarily to her girls, the letters provide entertainment and worldly advice for any woman on topics like childbirth, courting, and making a career, without sparing the gory detail!

Full of laugh-out-loud moments, almost entirely unsafe for work, this is a memoir worth a listen for the series of strange looks you'll get laughing aloud to yourself.
