Publisher's summary
Winter 1763. Alec, Lord Halsey, is sent on a diplomatic mission to Midanich, imperial outpost of the Holy Roman Empire, to bargain for the freedom of imprisoned friends. Midanich is a place of great danger and dark secrets - a country at civil war, ruled by a family with madness in its veins. For Alec it is a place of unspeakable memories from which he barely escaped and vowed never to return. But return he must if he is to save the lives of Emily St. Neots and Sir Cosmo Mahon.
In a race against time, Alec and the English delegation journey across the icy wasteland for the castle fortress where Emily and Cosmo are imprisoned. The severe weather is as much an enemy as the soldiers of the opposing armies encamped along the way. Awaiting him at his destination is the Margrave and his sister, demanding nothing less than Alec's head on a pike.

Story
My husband and I are fighting for our lives in hospital after a terrible car accident. But despite my pain, all I can think about is what our families will find behind our front door. The scarf that has been all over the news, belonging to a dead young woman with honey-coloured hair. I have to speak to the police before my husband can. I’m drifting in and out of consciousness, but when I hear my wife talking to the police, accusing me of the murder of an innocent woman, a cold fear grips me. I know I’ve got a temper.

Story
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

Story
When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers. My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well. So, when I was asked to narrate a new book by disappeared novelist Philippa Roberts I jumped at the chance, even if it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex, Hugo, for a few weeks. Hugo, with his perfect new home and his perfect new girlfriend Saskia. But this isn’t a dream come true. It’s a nightmare.

Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Who's lying now?
Would you listen to Deadly Peril again? Why?
Yes. It's diverting.
Which scene was your favorite?
When Alex is reunited with his friend, Cosmo.
Any additional comments?
Why does everyone lie in her books, everyone and all the time? I realize the book would be much shorter, but the convoluted tales does get tedious! Maybe just one person could tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?

Secrets
Loved every minute. What an adventure. Alex's scandalous youth comes back to haunt him. In order to save Cosmo and Emily, Alex must confront the secrets and demons of his youth. Selena must also reveal her secrets to Alex so they can go forward with their relationship. This was a great read. So looking forward to the next book.

DEADLY PERIL by Lucinda Brant
WOW! What an exciting tale. The narrator simply brought this tale alive for me.
Fast paced, dramatic and emotional. Very compelling and entertaining.
The characters are compelling, complex and will capture your heart and attention.
Another outstanding audible story. Loved the narrator, so effective in getting Ms. Brand's story across to the listener. A must get audible!

Deadly Peril
Exciting, fast moving, intricately detailed mystery/romance novel! I can't wait to read Deadly Sin, which I think is to be the next book and hopefully audio book as well. Lucinda Brandt never disappoints in my opinion. Alex Wyndham is absolutely amazing (5 star talent) with all of the different character's personalities and dialects of the various languages used throughout the story. The twists and unusual turns in the plot for this mystery are refreshingly different. I purchased both the book and the audio version as I love hearing the correct pronunciation of the names, places, and the variety of dialects used in the different regions of the different countries before I read the ebook. I listened to all three of the Alec's Halsey mysteries one after the other in quick secession... now I just have to wait for the next one. Excellent book and audio book!

Intrigue, Betrayal, War
This book has it all: so much intrigue along with twists in the plot. Alec was stationed here as a young diplomat early in his career, and his mistakes come back to haunt him. Unfortunately his closest friends are paying a price as prisoners to cruel captors. Lots of surprises for me as I had no idea how it would work out. Excellent writing and a great narrator.

ANOTHER WINNER
Where does Deadly Peril rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is the best so far
What did you like best about this story?
I loved the way it kept me on the edge
What does Alex Wyndham bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Alex is marvelous narrating this story, I love the way he moves from character to character with ease.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
If it was possible to listen to this on one sitting I would have, but at last, I must work for a living!
Any additional comments?
Lucinda this time took us international to Midanich, an Imperial outpost of the Holy Roman Empire where Alec is forced to return to (after escaping there 10 years ago) in order to save his friends Emily and Cosmo who are imprisoned by an insane Margrave and his even more insane sister. But nothing goes easy for Alec and his companions with all the twist and turns they have to take in order to get to his friends on time. This novel will keep you on the edge of your seat. The ending to this novel will make your jaws drop as it was so totally unexpected and not how you 'think' it will end.

It paid to read outside my usual genres!
Had this series not included a heavy mystery element I wouldn't have considered it. Turns out that I enjoyed the romantic and historical elements equal to the mystery!
Characters are deliciously and just slightly over the top, which of course makes them compelling. Plot and narrative style, perfect.
By the end of the series (Deadly Peril), I found myself consulting old maps and searching for the kingdom of Midanich, only to find Brant had created it herself. Impressive! I hope she continues the series. Bravo!
As for the narration, I could listen to Alex Wyndham read pharmaceutical labels.
