Publisher's summary

Sierra Malone trusted the wrong man, and now, he's trying to kill her. After narrowly escaping Kevin Eason's brutal attack, Sierra leaves her home, her family, and everything familiar. She finds temporary shelter, but it provides little relief from her constant fear. Desperate and alone, she considers an offer of protection from a stranger - but she soon learns he's harboring a potentially deadly secret.

Chase Price wants Eason behind bars, and he's willing to do anything to get him there, even if it means waiting for Eason to strike again. With an innocent life on the line, Chase sets out to finish this battle once and for all - but he soon learns guarding Eason's beautiful victim leaves him wanting much more than he anticipated.

Having faith in troubled times

I was impressed with this story full of suspense.Believable characters and a story of how faith and prayer helped them through horrific circumstances and helping those whose faith is floundering to see that God is in control. Great edge of your seat story. I received a complimentary audio and I am voluntarily reviewing.

Entertaining premise

Narrator was a bit too exuberant at times, but he did an okay job.

Liked the suspense and the overall premise of this story. Sierra gets a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend; he doesn’t take it well and almost kills her, but she gets away. She’s in hiding and fearing for her life. When she meets Chase, she feels like she’s met someone who can protect her, but their meeting wasn’t by chance. Chase has is own reasons for wanting Sierra’s ex taken out.

They way they meet is sweet, and both are people you can root for. Liked how protective Chase is; he’s a good guy. Story moves a little slowly, but it’s entertaining. Not quite my style of writing, but overall I found the story interesting.

Very enjoyable!

Ooo I love the intrigue in this one! They way she meets Chase then to find out things changed later. Great introduction!
I loved Sierra and Chase. That Kevin though ....he is just scary. I really enjoyed this one. The story was great and filled with action. The characters were enjoyable. I did listen on audio and the narrator, Chase Johnson, was amazing! I loved all his different voices.

Unbelievable

I couldn’t quit listening as one twist and then another happened. Chase and Sierra learn how to trust God and then each other. Must read or listen

Christian thriller romance

*trigger alert: this story contains descriptions (not too graphic) of physical and mental abuse.

Story: 4 stars

I am trying to separate the plot and story from the narration in order to be fair to the story. I liked it, and felt that on the whole it was believable. the plot of a narcissistic, psychopathic control-freak setting his sights on having a beautiful, vulnerable woman is all to believable.

The more the psychopath is thwarted, the scarier he gets, until he is downright evil incarnate.

The heroine's plight is also beliveable and she is definitely a sympathetic character who is on the run and struggling to survive. How she is found so easily and quickly by both the villain and the hero is one of the plot points that seems to enter into the realm of fantasy. (Perhaps because it wasn't explained to my satisfaction...) Also, the hero was so bossy with her that I felt that she wouldn't have responded well to him, yet she does.

The hero is understandably protective of the heroine and has 'skin in the game' because the villain killed his sister. He's biding his time and is watching the heroine in hopes of catching the villain. (I'm not sure how I feel about him using her as bait for his trap.) Regardless, once they meet, he is manly and protective and just the kind of protection she needs. (He's overruling and bossy, at least he's a detective and knows his way around a gun.)

There were some times when coincidence was too strongly relied upon and others where the characters should have literally collapsed from exhaustion and hunger, but didn't.

There were also moments of connection between the characters where we are allowed to glimpse their inner faith and struggles.

On the whole, I thought this plot was believable enough and certainly was intense enough. The Christian element is a wonderful touch.

Narration: 3 stars

Mr. Johnson was good, but.... his female voices needed work. Chase's mother sounds like a screechy harpy. It's variation on his female voice, but not one for a mother figure. His portrayal of Chase was pretty good, but I felt that Mr. Johnson delivered all of Chase's lines in such a posturing way, that I didn't see any vulnerability. The vulnerability was, I think, (it's difficult sometimes to separate what was actually written from how it was voiced) part of the character. Yes, Chase was determined and committed to being strong for the heroine, but he always sounded so cocky and he-man that I couldn't connect with his character and felt disbelief that the female protagonist did.

Good Narration & Story

Sierra was in a bad situation and she ran. Meeting Chase who was set on revenge. A good suspense with some twist. They both learned about trust and trusting that God was in control. Good plot and liked both of the characters, believable and flawed. Narration added to the suspense.

horrible story and narration

This could have been a great story the overall idea is great! The narrator did an absolutely awful job! All the male characters sounded like rough cowboys and Sierra sounded like a helpless maiden! The heavy christian tones added nothing to the story like the author was likely going for. It didn't feel like a well thought out Christian mystery.
