Story
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Fast, Fun with Lots of Twists and Turns
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. Performance was wonderful and so was the story.
What did you like best about this story?
There were a lot of original and unexpected elements. The main character was in particular different and likable. The story was never dull and kept evolving. Great job on the part of the author.
What does Eric A. Shelman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The voice of the main character made him feel more real to me.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughed a few times for sure. No crying, but several anxious moments.
Any additional comments?
It is an excellent zombie book. It was a balancing act between original elements and familiar zombie fun. The story didn't follow any formula, it changed with time, keeping it fresh and new throughout.

Deaders...Dead Wrong
Jacob quietly lives with his family in a somewhat remote location until the deaders come. Now all he has is his trusty crow bar. He doesn’t know why he has been spared, but he does know that the only way he can keep going is by burning the deaders out of his city. He is going about this task when he realizes he is not the only man left on the planet.
The doctor is astonished and excited when he and the military convoy come across Jacob. He is the only one still alive and not wearing an oxygen mask. It’s just in the nick of time, too, as they are running out of clean oxygen to breathe.
The doctor and Jacob and the military do not start off on the best of terms. Once the military base is attacked, though, they unite in an uneasy alliance and discover the true cause of the deader epidemic. The full truth of what caused the deaders and the rise of the zombies surprises and infuriates them both.
I liked this listen. I like Jacob and the way he handles all of the devastation he encounters. I liked the radio show at the beginning. I like the twist of what started the apocalypse. This feels like the first in a series, though, as there definitely wasn’t a resolution to much of anything at the end of it. I’ll be on the lookout for the next installment and hope Jacob’s story continues.
Eric Shelman does a great narration for this material. His voices, both male and female, are good and his pace, tone, and cadence for the rest of the narration is outstanding. I will be looking for him in the future.

Jacob and his Crowbar vs The Tainted
What did you love best about Deaders?
The initial thoughts of the cause was actually a pretty interesting idea.
What about Eric A. Shelman’s performance did you like?
This is the third book I have listened too with Eric Shelman as narrator and enjoyed all three narrations. I listen to a lot of Audible books and I would listen to a book narrated by Eric without any worry of a bad read by the narrator.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Its a fairly short story (4hrs) so filled up my flight time perfectly.
Any additional comments?
First and Foremost- I was given a copy of this for a review.
Its an interesting listen and has some good ideas. I enjoyed the narrator and that helped a lot. The author did try to give a detailed story but it is kind of hard to get a lot of detail and action in 4 hrs. If you want a quick read then its not bad but I prefer a much more detailed and in-depth story with a main character I would be more comfortable with and could actually like in real life. I gave this 3 stars as it is not bad, just needs some cleaning up and a little better direction. The story line is about a man named Jacob whose best friend is a crowbar and his desire is to kill all the tainted for taking his family. He has problems with the military (because he is immune) and also a religious psyco who also wants to rid the world of the tainted. It has a twist on the cause of the zoms which I though was good but the cause does change near the end of the story. It does have a decent amount of action in it. The book does have a good pace to it and doesn't lag to much on slow scenes. My biggest negatives is that first Jacob is a little wacked out and that makes it hard to want to be part of the story. Second is the Military side of things has some problems with concept and how things work. And also when the book is going to also be narrated it is painful to listen to the narrator having to go "crunch, crunch, crunch" as the character walks across glass. Overall not to bad and I would really like to see what this Author could do in a 9 to 10 hr book and a couple of good Beta Readers.

What did you like best about this story?
The twist ending was good and unexpected.

Deaders
Any additional comments?
Zombies created through a man made fungal spore.
The story started off good, kind of stalled for a while then picked up again towards the end. The only thing that was different than the usual Zombie Apocalypse stories is the revelation of who created and released the fungal spores to begin with. After losing his family Jacob who is immune to the fungus goes on a zombie killing spree and a little crazy, with his "buddy" a crowbar. I kept expecting Jacob to call his crowbar Wilson. There are a cast of characters including a religious zealot military pilot, military scientist and his girlfriend and the crew from a radio station serial called Zombie Alive (which only made me think of the podcast serial We're Alive which is a fantastic series by the way).
Jacob does redeem himself towards the end of the story. The story does get a little more interesting and has more action in the last few chapters.
Eric A. Shelman did a good job with the narration..

Loved it!
I am a huge fan of anything zombie, so this book was right up my alley. In this particular zombie epic, fungal spores are released into the air, causing humans to turn into flesh-eating zombies. All but a few, that is. This book follows the story of one survivor in particular, Jacob, who for unknown reasons is somehow immune to the fungal spores. I thought the author did a masterful job crafting a character that you liked in the beginning, then changed your mind about a little bit (he starts acting a little crazy and you are unsure how you feel about him and his "little buddy"), then in the end you find yourself liking him again. Hero to villain to hero again. All of the characters were well-developed and well-voiced. The narrator created very distinct voices for each character that added to the enjoyment of the book (which is not always the case with audio books). I was provided this book at no cost by the author, publisher, or narrator via AudioBookBoom in exchange for an honest review, and my honest opinion is that you will enjoy this book too (especially if you're a fan of zombie fiction). It has it all: action, lots of zombies, humor, tragedy, and even a little romance.
