Publisher's summary

Recovering from a gunshot wound, arm still in a sling, JR Steele is drawn into a web of murders, cybercrime, and international mobsters. An Army veteran, retired police detective, and semi-retired private investigator, Steele makes ends meet by working as a gunsmith. He’s just trying to enjoy a quiet life on Florida’s Treasure Coast. But, he’s dragged into the fray by his former client Kate, a gorgeous young blonde who’s getting her PI license under his watch.

Steele actually has little interest in her new cybersecurity and detective business - until she sees a murder while hacking into the security cameras of a company she is investigating. Helping her seems the only way to assure her safety. How do you take down international mobsters? Recruit rival mobsters. On top of that, Steele and Kate are drawn into a second murder case because, well, he keeps helping people in spite of himself. That draws him into a world of colorful characters in a fast-paced and riveting murder mystery. As the murders mount up, the situation goes from strange, to sick, to sicker, and stranger. Fortunately, Steele has friends that aren’t afraid to operate on the gray side of the law.

This edge-of-your-seat suspense novel introduces unique Florida characters listeners will never forget in a spellbinding tale.

GRIPPING

I read this in one sitting. A great storyline as always. Detective Steele helps out a friend with a apparent murder and things turn ugly quickly.

I’m going to read more of Wheler’s work

I haven’t read the first book in the series. “One Dead Lady.” But it’s high on my reading list now.

EXCITING

I love the JR Steele stories. As usual the story kept me on the edge of my seat and once started I didn’t put down until I finished it. The only bad thing is I have to wait a spell for the next story. Thanks for an exciting story without filthy language and detailed S scenes. I love mysteries and action and this one fit the bill.
