Publisher's summary

When the dead call, she answers.

Bounty hunting is a helluva job, but it pays the bills. And it lets Necromancer Dante Valentine forget her issues - like struggling with her half-demon side and the memory of her lover's death.

Now psychics all over the city are being savagely murdered - and a piece of the past Dante thought she'd buried is stalking the night with a vengeance. Too bad she's got no way to tell which fiend - or friend - to trust. Or that her most horrifying nightmares are gathering to take one kick-ass bounty hunter down for the count.

But that's only the beginning. The Devil just called. He's looking for Dante's lover - the one he killed....

Even Less Impressed.

Book 2 wasn't an improvement on book 1.

Dante is so emotionally overwrought the entire book, someone needs to put her out of her misery.
When her shoulder isn't burning (or icy), her hand is cramping into a claw. When she's not having nightmares, she's wallowing in self flagellation or bemoaning that her friends care about her. I get that she has emotional scars, but it's awfully tedious to be reminded of it every few minutes.

I also have a little pet peeve, when an author uses the same phrasing to describe the same thing more than once. It doesn't tell me anything new to describe the same lake as "algae-choked" more than once, or describe the same smells, auras, and magical phenomena in the exact same terms, repeatedly. This book could have benefited from the application of a thesaurus.

Eh

Not sure I've I'll read the next one or not. She left the best plot point for the last ten pages of the book. Really disappointed me.

A bit boring

I like the overall premise of a female bounty hunter working free lance for the devil... but this book only has the Prince of Help in it for a 2 minute cameo. Instead this book focuses around Dante tracing her past and the terrors she faced in primary school. I think this wpould have been better as one of those filler books the author puts out with a 1.5 tag.

So no Lucifer and no demon lover. That was two stars down for me. Then the author constantly repeats herself. I'm not exxeragating. Even my favorite line from book one "You will not leave me to wander this earth alone" was brought up at least 4 times. There is a line from Jason that is repeated over and over. There is a line from Lucifer that is repeated over and over. There is a line from Eddie that is repeated over and over.... soooo.... My interest was just not into this one.

Side note, the cover art is not appealing to me. I'm looking through and it looks lime all of them have this vibe.

On a side note, the narrator sounds like she is saying "Chase"... it wasn't until half way through this book I realize she is saying Jas... for Jason... SMH.

However, that's my personal opinion. This book may really hit the mark for some of you. There is action and a lot of background information on this futuristic world. So this may be the book for you.

Good Story, less Exposition

Would you try another book from Lilith Saintcrow and/or Tanya Eby?

Yes

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Wanted more bang, less exposition. Sometimes the character describes her feelings over and over again, was waiting for more answers. I don't mind some things being drawn out more, especially with a series, but there were just answers I thought should come and didn't. They might come in other books but felt a little to drawn out to me.

Which scene was your favorite?

Fate of Dante's home

Any additional comments?

Wasn't my favorite. Couldn't put it down but left too wanting (and with any book series I don't mind being left wanting more, this just felt too thin.) Still going to do the rest of the series because it is that good.
