Such a surprise!

This was a little gem! I ended up really enjoying this and devouring it over the course of a day and a half.

The story centers on 2 sisters, Dawn and Gabby. Gabby has always looked after Dawn and tried to make her life comfortable. One day while out with her boyfriend, Gabby decides that Dawn deserves something special for her birthday and steals an expensive necklace. Unfortunately she gets caught and is sent to the colonies, an undisclosed location where they are sent to be slaves for the rest of their lives. Dawn is devastated but decides that she has to try to find this place and rescue her sister. So she leaves London and travels to where they know the colonies are located, which is the old US. Where the colonies are exactly, they don't know, but Dawn and Drew are intent on finding Gabby.

The setting for the book is for an America that is no longer, it's now colonised by Britain and is used for criminals no matter how small their crime. I enjoyed this aspect of the book as usually Post Apoc books take place in America, and while this still does, it's not an America that's normal.

I liked the characters too. Gabby and Dawn have a great relationship and it was lovely to see. The fact that Dawn left everything she knows to go to an unknown world to save her sister, pretty much says it all. There are plenty of other characters too and all were well written and developed. The only character I had any reservation for was Drew. His reasoning for going to the colonies in the first place were sketchy and not mush was done about it during the book. Maybe we will find the answers in the next book, but who knows!!

In all, this book was a pleasant surprise and kept me hooked throughout. It is told from multiple POVs which worked well here because we get Dawn's story as well as seeing from Gabby's and Drew's POV. It made the book richer. I can't wait to read more in this world!!

Danielle Cohen did a great job. Even though, voice wise, she didn't differentiate the sisters that much, it was still easy to follow who was talking at any given time. It was subtle differences but the way she executed it was really good. She was easy to listen to as well and was clear and concise!

Wow!! AMAZING BOOK, AMAZING NARRATION!!! I loved how Danielle Cohen could go from AMERICAN accent to an ENGLISH accent!! she did an awesome job narrating this book!! I could RAVE FOREVER ABOUT IT.....BUT I THINK YOU GET THE POINT!! Now onto the Story, this is my first book by Michelle Lynn & I couldn't get ENOUGH!! I HAVE TO FIND THE NEXT BOOK TO THIS SERIES!!

Great start to a series. Overall very entertaining, engaging and enjoyable. It started off a bit slow, but it slowly pulls you in and before you know it your hooked. Interesting take on a dystopian future. America no longer exists as we know it. It is under British control. Criminals are transported to America. History repeating itself.

Great cast of likable characters. Creative world the author has imagined.
Some of the twists woven into the story were completely unexpected. Worth your time and credit? Yes, definitely.

The story is told in alternating POV's mostly between Dawn and Gabby. You never know what your made of or what you can do until you are put to the test. When it comes to helping or defending ones family you are capable of quite a lot. .

This book does in a cliffhanger. So be prepared. Fortunately the next book in the series is available on Audible. Looking forward to listening to the next installment.

Danielle Cohen does a really good job with the narration. Pleasant voice easy to listen to for long periods of time. Clearly spoken with a smooth even pace. Good character voices. She was able to make the characters come to life through her narration. She was the perfect choice of narrators for this story. Overall very enjoyable.

This is the 1st book in a trilogy about two sisters. Once sister is caught stealing and sent into exile in the colonies, formerly known as America. The story picks up when the other sister decided to stage a rescue mission. There are many action packed moments and some unexpected surprises. I look forward to the next book in this YA dystopian series.


The narration was well done.The characters were well portrayed.I love the British accents.

I loved this book before I listened to the audio version, and now I love it more. I love how the characters just sprang to life with the narrator's voice

What other book might you compare Dawn of Rebellion to and why?

I don't know if I've read a book quite like this before. I could only compare it to the other two books in the series.

What does Danielle Cohen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Whether the characters are English girls or Texas guys, Danielle brings flair and emotion to each character, and to the narrative, that makes it even easier to absorb than reading the book. (Not that there's anything wrong with the book!)

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The moment when a purely innocent character died. The tragedy of the setting and the circumstances leading up to it really hit home in that scene.

Michelle Lynn is a brilliant writer, and I am a true fan of her work.

I liked a lot of things about Dawn of Rebellion; the setting was good, and a lot of the world-building made sense. The two lead female characters were very well done. I found a lot of the use of modern slang kind of unusual, and Britain itself wasn't all that clearly flushed out as a whole. The narration was really good, barring a few minor and not particularly off-putting accent difficulties. Warning: this book has a gigantic cliffhanger at the end, so if that kind of thing really bothers you, wait for the next book before buying this one.

I enjoyed this book! It was fast paced and colorful. I wish there was more than one narrator because I kept having trouble keeping the characters separate.

Dystopian Drama

Dawn is a young girl just trying to make it in a dystopian London. The story follows Dawn as she and her sister are sent to the colonies, as it is called. America is now the dystopian version of what Australia used to be. It’s where all undesirables are sent to carry out their sentences for wrongdoings.

Michelle Lynn’s young adult story is a fairly brutal telling, it’s definitely for those on the older cusp of this genre! I found the story intriguing and enjoyed this 6 plus hour audiobook.

Dawn of Rebellion is narrated by Danielle Cohen. She does a wonderful job voicing different characters and switched between British and American accents with aplomb, what a feat! The combination of Michelle's writing and Danielle's reading puts this audiobook solidly in the four-star category!

Colonies

I like the narrator with her accent, but some of the character voices sounded very similar. She doesn't really sound like a 15 year old girl, but it didn't bother me much.

Gabby and Dawn are close sisters. After Gabby steals jewelry, she gets shipped off to the American colonies. Dawn and Gabby's boyfriend find a way to join Gabby on the colony and search for her. Be warned The story ends in a cliffhanger. The story switches perspectives between the three characters. The story was a little bit sad. A young girl dies of disease in the colonies while they watch, powerless to help her. The premise felt a little silly to me. I don't really believe Drew's reasons for going to the colony, and Dawn was just super lucky to get as far as she did. Despite Drew's claim that he wants to see his brother, we don't hear much about him and he seems forgotten after Drew lands.
