Awesome!

No wonder that this story has been translate in several different media in Its home country; it is insightful and deep, not to mention a truly exciting military background.
Can't wait to listen to the rest of the series!

Great start

Numerous characters development a little confusing, but loved the narrator again. Enjoyed some of the plot changes

As Space Opera as it Gets!

If you like Anime and Space Operas this is the perfect audiobook for you.

I had heard of this anime series before but did not know until recently it had been adapted later into novel form. This is as space opera as science fiction gets in my opinion. Large scale space ship battles, strategy, and political plotting. The first part is sets the stage with a bit of a history lesson but isn't too dry.

The narrator does a great job telling the story. I have had great books ruined by terrible narration. Seriously, whenever I see a book narrated by the author I cringe.

Nothing beats the book

After watching both of the anime series and listing to the book, I have come to the conclusion, like with most adaptations, that nothing beats the book. While the anime adaptations closely follow the book, the added internal dialog that you get with both Yang and Rinehard flesh out the characters more and give you a better feel for who each of them are as characters. In addition, the first chapter really dose a fantastic job at fleshing out the history of the universe so you get a good feel for why things have progressed the way they have. Each of the battles that take place during the novel are riveting and keep me guessing on how it will turn out. In addition, I am interested in seeing the part that Earth will play in the future. The only downside I can see with this franchise is that I don't see any volume past 3 having an audio book. It is disappointing to think that part way through the series I will have to switch to a different medium, but I will cross that bridge once I get to it.

Goofy title, awesome book

I picked this up on the 2 for 1 credit sale on a whim, knowing nothing about it, and thus I ran into the best damn space opera I've ever read (or listened to, I guess). The main characters are both interesting, and their subordinates, minor characters, and others are all generally interesting and have decent motivations. Even for the incredibly skewed motivations of the nobility on the Empire Side, or the politicians on the Alliance side, reasons are given for why they're so screwed up. So far, I cannot get enough of this series, and really hope they license the rest of the series as I will definitely get every book. If you liked the early books in the Honor Harrington series, then check this out.

Also, Tim Gerard Reynolds did his usual awesome narrating job, especially given the sheer number of characters he had to deal with doing different voices for.

If you love Foundation, you will LOVE this gem!

Like Isaac Asimov's Foundation, Legend of the Galactic Heroes is an outstanding science fiction epic. Even though this is only the first book in the series, I eagerly await the next installment!

LotGH is downright great space opera!

If you're looking for galactic scale political and military conflict and 'rise to power' stories revolving around wonderfully charismatic characters, look no further, Legend of the Galactic Heroes is a delight!

Better than the anime

Loved the anime, and the book is even better. it doesn't drag on nearly as bad. My only gripe is the narrator trying to do special voices and accents for every character. It's really cringey. Note to narrators, just read characters in your normal voice.
