Publisher's summary

More than a year after her ordeal, Emily McPhee finally feels safe. Emily's psychological scars are healing. Things are great between her and OPD Officer Seth Connors, and her biggest problem is the X-rated Halloween decorations her best friend Pete has placed all around her house.

If only it would stay that way.

Seth senses something isn't right, but he doesn't know where the danger is coming from or why. He's sure Emily's neighbor, Travis McKay, is hiding something, and the man pays way too much attention to Emily. To make things even more complicated, a new female officer appears to have her sights set on Seth, and fellow officer Alexander Avery has some sort of connection to a mysterious brothel employee. Seth has a feeling all these odd things are somehow connected - but he knows he's missing a huge piece of the puzzle.

Pull at a thread and everything unravels.

Emily's mother shows up with a surprise and a dirty plan to force her to sell the family home and Seth's father is proven to be the deceitful monster Seth always believed him to be. Lasko's tainted past and twisted family ties turn out to be more complex than they ever imagined. Every lie has a consequence, and Seth and Emily need the truth.

In order to escape with their lives and their love intact, they must answer one critical question: Who is the real target in this deadly game?

This book had it all: mystery, suspense, romance, like a roller coaster ride. Emotion evoking ! Never a dull moment! Love it!

A MUST READ NOVEL! So many twist and turns! Couldn’t put it down once I started reading it! The plot is perfect! Highly recommended!

the story was great. the narrator needed to improve but it wasn't so bad that I couldn't get through the books.

4 stars but....

I have given this series 4 stars all the way through because the narrator is wonderful!! She had a lot of people to portray and she did a great job.

The writing was wonderful... story line was twisted (which I like) BUT I don’t feel like we got it all wrapped up. The situation with the Emily’s mother was just glossed over... brief mention that she was gone. I fell like that situation was a diversion but still was waiting for the knock down with her mom... al least more than we got. But still it was a pretty good trilogy. Definitely worth the time.

Great narrator but

It’s was a good book that kept me listening to see how it ended. However I wish there was a male narrator for the 3 different male POVs

Overall - a little disappointed with book 3

I loved the series and I love this author. Broken is one of my favorite trilogies so I wanted to see what this one was about.

Overall I loved the series. Broken is still my favorite but I would listen to this one again because I missed something’s the first tome around. There are some similar things to this trilogy and broken.

I feel like we didn’t get the ending we deserved in this one and not everything was tied up like I thought it was in broken. I feel like the 3rd book had a lot of unnecessary drama and a look into their future could had been given, like a proposal or a wedding or some indication of a true happily ever after but I didn’t get the feeling at the end.

I loved the characters and their story. I hope she does a book for Garett some days like she did for the black stone boys.

I would listen again but it will be a while from now.

2nd listen good as the 1st

This author is one of my favorites. Been through Broken and Darkness trilogies twice. Would love it if Honor & Escape would be released in audio also. Waiting for more books which will be automatic download for me!

Love, love, love this series

Would you try another book from J.L. Drake and/or Tia Sorensen?

J. L. Drake, definitely. I have all of her books, even the ones not available in audio. I have listened to and read each one several times.Tia Sorenson's monotone narration almost ruins the story.

Would you be willing to try another one of Tia Sorensen’s performances?

Absolutely not!

Was Darkness Falls worth the listening time?

Absolutely! And I will listen to the series again and again.

Should have stopped at 2 books

It was hard telling who was the one talking throughout the whole entire book everything sounded the same as well as I had way too many characters to try to follow. I enjoyed the first two books of the series but the third was a waste of time.

it was ok, but not as good as the first series.

I liked a lot of the twists and turns, so it kept me reading, but there was a lot of unnecessary drama that sometimes drive me crazy, and made me want to give up on it, but I was so invested by this point that I keep on with it. it was just ok in my opinion.

Narrator is a disappointment

I’ve really enjoyed other series by JL Drake and I stuck with this one til the end because they were free with my Escape package. BUT the narrator made it an effort. She didn’t really try and change her voice when different characters were speaking so it was very difficult to follow. Read this series. Don’t waste a credit.
