Story
Everyone knows the Rubicon is predestined for evil, and the alpha dragon does nothing to change their opinions of him. What they don't know is that he harbors a secret - a secret that can set him free, but also trap him forever. Refusing to give in to that which can lead him to a path of freedom, Blake Leaf allows the darkness to attempt to claim his soul. But there is always a shining light somewhere, and sometimes, it's just too dark to see it.

I'm Lexie Delaney, and I'm a necromancer. Which means, I can see the dead, talk to them, affect them. Not as fun as it sounds. Especially since the Veil closed and the dead have been stuck here. Things in town are getting tense. School is starting, and I'm already tired of our plan to keep our relationships quiet. Bodies keep showing up and no one has a clue as to why.

Publisher's Summary
Everyone in Paegeia knows that only one Rubicon dragon lives at a time. If more than one, they will destroy Paegeia and eventually the rest of the world as they crave that constant power for dominance.
Blake Leaf is this era's Rubicon and is destined for great things if his darkness can be won. Darkbeam Part I follows the story of the Rubicon and how he tries to keep his beast, the darkness, at bay.

I absolutely hated Blake in the first three books of the Draconian series . This book is in Blake's perspective so I understood him more . I can't wait for some of the later plot points in his perspective . The narration was also good .

Struggled with it
I really didn't care for this book. I actually finished it a few days ago but I've had to take time to really process everything and make a definitive decision on my rating and review. The trouble is that this book could have been awesome but I really disliked the main character. I know he's the type of character most readers love to hate but still root for because everyone enjoys seeing villians turned heros. My dislike mostly comes from the fact that the main character had so little personal growth that I was left feeling like I was suffocating from negativity. The whole book felt like he would take 1 step towards redemption and then 3 steps back. He doesn't have enough redeaming qualities to leave me feeling invested in his future. And that really sucks because this story could actually be incredible. This world is fascinating, complicated, and filled with intrigue; if the main character was different or even if it was like a split/multiperson narrative I think I probably would've really enjoyed this book. But I have no interest in continuing this series and I definitely won't listen to this book again.

Perfectly Blake
I loved the book and the characters in the written version, but having it read and the emotion that the narrator put into the book brought me a new level of appreciation to the way Adrienne Woods writes. I have read all over her books multiple times and now i think i need audio for all of them. I cant wait for the rest of this series to be published and made into audio.

The dark side of dragonia
I’ve been a big fan of the dragonian series from the beginning pretty much. This was a interesting look into the Blake side of the story. I figured from how I felt about Blake from the original books that I wouldn’t be a fan of how he was before and shortly after meeting Elena. I wasn’t wrong. This book is extremely dark.

bring on more of the rubicon
BRING ON PART 2. Need I say more. The dark fantasy with a dragon. The battel of Blake Leaf against the darkness that works hard to overtake him. I have yet to read the Dragonian series, but after this one I will be heading back to read that series and book one from this series. I want to see where things began and how the progress. I am awaiting the follow up book for Darkbeam. I want to know more about Blake. I am certain that once I have consumed the other series and the first book of this series. I will most certianly be back to listen Darkbeam Part 1 a second time. The choice in narrator was a good one. I found that Kevin's portarila of the characters was alluring. He was dark when needed. Sick and twisted at the right times. The timing, inflections, diction, pitch and tone worked very well with the story unfolding. Kudoos and high-fives for the writing, the depth of characters, the direction of the story, the background, the narration. I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Adrienne Woods. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

I absolutely love Blakes side of things
I am a huge fan of this universe. Dragons, secret schools, and learning to be partners/riders with dragons. So the fact that the author decided to give us a look at broody boys story is fantastic. The audio reading is well done and draws you in to the fight between light and dark. Be aware that this takes place before and right at the beginning of the original books stories.

Without her I was nothing, I was evil.
I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the story was entertaining. Blake has a darkness inside him. He has a lot of sex, arguments, fights, and battles with his inner dialogue. As the last Rubicon after 1000 years he believed he didn’t have a rider, but things might seem to have changed. Now struggling to understand and even believe he might finally have a rider, one that he doesn’t want, he continues on a path of destruction and tries to ignore Elena. Lucian is definitely someone I want to know more about and before Elena, I had hoped he could have claimed the beast within Blake. Kevin T Collins is a new narrator to me. I enjoyed this narration. Kevin was on point with the emotion and tone of the story making it an easy listen.

Powerful dark and intriguing full of sexual tensio
First of all I would like to emphasise how much I absolutely love the cover to this book. It is powerful and intriguing and is perfect to portray the novel. I jumped into this book without knowing much about the storyline or the author and it was not what I expected at all. Based on the cover I assumed it was a normal run of the mill young adult novel but wow was I wrong. This book is certainly not aimed at the young adult market as it is dark and full of sexual tension and sexual scenes. The author has done their best to put warnings on the amazon page etc. Even though it was not what was expected it's much better. The book is a slow burner but I encourage readers to keep with it . The character development is absolutely on point and it's such a powerful start to the series. I will be definitely looking into the other books by this author. I was given the book by the author /narrator via audioboom in return for an honest and unbiased review
