There are worse things than ghosts.

Paranormal investigator Jodie Callaghan has spent years chasing shadows—but none as personal as those found within the decaying walls of Parson Hall. She returns alone for one last investigation before the hall is sold off. But the night doesn’t go as planned. She’s not the only one drawn to the hall’s dark energy.

A mysterious stranger arrives, performing a ritual that unleashes something ancient and malevolent—Nathaniel Barrow, The Watcher of Parson Hall. A dark spirit twisted by vengeance and bound to the house, his awakening marks the beginning of a terrifying game of survival. The line between hunter and hunted begins to blur as the hall itself comes alive with the whispers of the dead.

Forced into an uneasy alliance, Jodie and the stranger must unravel the hall’s haunted past and confront the darkness that dwells within. But The Watcher sees all—and he never lets his prey leave without a price.

I’m only a little over halfway in this book. And I do agree with another reviewer, that the main character, Jodie, is a weak and contradictory character. She has supposedly been in similar circumstances in the past, but reacts as if it is all unreal and unfamiliar. My main complaint about the audio version, is the portrayal of Jodie. Although she is supposed to be a weak character, the constantly raised voice and overly done dramatics/hysterics, make her an even more annoying character. I will finish the book, but will try to do so reading rather than listening.

Main character narration overdone.

The narrator himself wasn't bad--articulate and easy to understand. The thing that, to me, was absolutely abhorrent, was his portrayal of the main character, Jodie. Ive listened to a bazillion audiobooks...and I can say Ive very rarely cursed it constantly and wanted to vomit at a narrators portrayal of a character. I can't describe it--although thr character herself was quite contrary and annoying. Made me want to punch walls. Too high pitched and whiny (in EVERY dialogue she has). I'll try the next book, but im gonna try to keep myself away from walls when I do.

**Update...I got through 2 minutes of the second book and had to stop. Sigh. Perhaps Ill read it, I dunno.

Narrators portrayal of Jodie

I thought the storyline was good but the main character is not likable. She has an issue with what she has found herself caught up in, but looks over the fact that she put herself in the current situation. It’s annoying. I am reading the second book and it’s the same thing.

It was an easy listen and I finished it pretty quickly.
