Publisher's summary

In an explosive novel from number one New York Times best-selling author Christine Feehan, a human woman ignites the desire of her Carpathian lifemate - and of an ancient vampire with a score to settle.

After the devastating loss of her entire family, Lorraine Peters heads to the woods searching for peace of mind and anything to quell the anger in her soul. Instead, she stumbles upon a scene of horrific violence, as one man lies helpless in the face of three attackers.

Andor Katona's existence has been a harsh one, living for centuries as a monk in the Carpathian Mountains. Unable to find his lifemate, he almost welcomes his release from a colorless and unfeeling world at the hands of the vampire hunters who have mistaken him for their prey. That is, until a whirling ball of fury bursts onto the scene, determined to save him.

In one glimpse, in one breath, Andor recognizes Lorraine as his lifemate, but it will take more than their telepathic connection to convince her of their immortal bond. Lorraine is a lethal combination of cunning and courage. So much so that she captures the attention of a master vampire, one who has already lost what was once irreplaceable to him. One who will strike with deadly precision at Andor and his ancient Carpathian comrades in a war to end all wars.

SHE IS BACK!!!

I have not enjoyed the last 4 or 5 books because they were more about sex, I don’t mind a good sex scene every now and then but not the majority of the book. This book or more like the original writing I enjoyed from the beginning. Thank you Thank you for writing the way I grew to love and enjoy!

NARRATOR JIM FARGIONE WAS BORING LACK LUSTER!!

I had mixed feeling about Dark Sentinel. I had to read it twice to figure out why it was not holding my attention. I listened on audible book and then I went back and read my HB book. I couldn't make up my mind if its a 3 star story or a 4 star. So I gave it the benefit of the doubt and gave it 4 stars.
BORING NARRATION!!

Lorraine Peters is one of the best written lifemates I have read in awhile. She is a martial arts instructor. Her family worked as martial arts instructors. Then one day her once loving brother goes off the rails and kills her entire family. I like that Christine Feehan use her Martial Arts training and experience, which is a part of herself to create Lorraine. I believe CF is a Black Belt. Lorraine is intelligent witty and very brave. She reminded me a bit of Natalya from Dark Demon and her flaming hair spray canisters she used to kill vampire. Lorraine used Wasp Spray and Alcohol mix to kill vampires. Lorraine was quick and she didn't hover or back down. I just loved her. She was a perfectly written heroine. Can't say as much for Andor. He's a bit boring. He is the same old same old Carpathian male. He was a bit more modern thinking then a lot of Ancients. He just wasn't impressive enough for me. These ancients from the monastery keep getting outsmarted by Sergey. Who is quite impressive. I hated that Vadim is still alive or is he Sergey's slave? That's a mystery there and I don't know when we will find out whats really going on with the two Malinov brothers. I just know Sergey was more impressive then The Ancients in the story.

The storyline needed some excitement. Something like Emeline having the baby or Trixie, Fane Andre and Teagan arriving from the monastery. The storyline just did Not move forward. Not one bit. The ending surprising twist was a bit disappointing as well, because it ends on a Cliffhanger and I don't like Cliffhangers. I loved hearing about Aiden Savage, Alexandra and Joshua. I hope we get to read how they make out in the future with there life changes. I can't say what those are you have to read the story.

So I guess people who read this review will ask why 4 star instead of 3. Well because the first part of the story is very good and most of the ending is very good. The middle needs some fun excitement. But Overall I like this story a lot.

She's back

This story is back to what she is born to write. There is more story and less sex. The love story is there but the battles and intrigue are dominant. This one put me in mind of the first 22 Dark stories. I loved it. The only thing I hate is that she has joined the cliffhanger crew. That is a bad crew to be a part of.

Quality of story has gone down and is staying down

I am sad to say that I believe Ms. Feehan should have stopped this series several books ago. They simply aren't as engaging as they used to be. Every Dark Hunter sounds alike now, and the women...ugh! As for the stories there is no real drama that makes me want to root for the couple, this had a plot that was so predictable it wasn't even funny. Oh and I'm sorry, I just don't buy Gary being referred to as an "ancient"....even if he was turned it doesn't change his chronological age...c"mon! These stories just have no spark anymore. What happened to stories like Dark Gold, Dark Prince, Dark Fire....where women didn't just accept what the men decided for them? They had fire and spirit.

As for Joe Frangione, he is ok....but just ok. I don't really feel he adds much to the characters in the way of personality. A reader like Robert Petkoff would bring the characters to life as he does with Kresley Cole's Immortals series and that would really help.

Sorry, but I just can't recommend this one. Save your credit/money.

Started out well, but then dragged out

This book started out well, but then seemed to drag on and on.
I may be wrong, but it seemed to me that what was said in one hour could have been said in 10 minutes.
Eventually I just skipped whole sections as it never seemed to get to the point.

I will not buy another Carpathian Novel book

Better than I expected.

The Good:
Brought in Carpathians from other books. {including Gary}
Strong enemy with a new twist
Strong and likable female.
The not so Good:
The reader has a good voice; however, no change in tone between male or females. Made it harder to follow everyone.
Christine spent a little more time developing her story this time. Welcome back!
It was worth the credit.

Disappointing

I have read all the Carpathian novels. This book was repetitive and almost pointless in the grand scheme of this series. There was barely one chapters worth of new information. Skipping it!

This is an incomplete storyline.

Ms Feehan,
should have warned fans that this book is a part one. The way this book ended has me bewildered and demanding my money back!

It was entertaining but ...

The heroine was very smart, strong and likable. Unfortunately, she & her, kind of bland, life mate were also very horny and went at it a lot, to the detriment of the story's pacing, in my opinion. I would have preferred more progression of the story or character development in place of the sex scenes in a few places while reading. I even found my self thinking, "Really? They're going to go at it now." and "Not again." at the timing of some of the sex scenes.
That said, the introduction of these new more cunning vampires in America and their new minions breathes new life into the series. The introduction of the possible couple of the next book also totally peeked my interest as well.
