Publisher's summary

The second novel in the new, gripping supernatural thriller series from international best-selling author Jodi Taylor.

From the frying pan into the fire....

Betrayed, terrified and alone, Elizabeth Cage has fled her home. With no plan and no friends, she arrives at the picturesque village of Greyston and finds herself involved in an ages-old ceremony that will end in death.

And that might be the least of her problems - the Sorensen Institute would very much like to know her whereabouts. And Michael Jones is still out there, somewhere, she hopes. No matter how far and how fast she can run, trouble will always find Elizabeth Cage.

Narrator should not have been changed!

The book was written well and the story was great. I did not care for the narrator. Elizabeth is a younger girl and I felt the new narrator aged her and she wasn't as good as Kate Scarfe.

A break from reality

I enjoy Jodi Taylor's books, and have listened to all of the St. Mary's series. I am glad I started this new series. This book has little to do with reality, and I read to get away for just a bit. I like the characters and the setting a lot and I never knew where the story was going - by turns, it can be calm home life, with a bit scary, a little funny, or a lot dangerous. The only little thing that bothered me was the change in readers. It did take a while to get used to a different voice, but I finally accepted it. I do get whiny when different readers are used for a series, but that is just my preference to stay with a good thing. When there is a good reader for a character, and then it changes to someone different, it takes me out of the story for a while until I get used to the change. I did like the calmer presentation of the first reader more, and even considered buying the Kindle edition instead, but listening turned out OK. I told you I get whiny when a series changes readers.

Narrator-sigh

Love Jodi Taylor books. But this one is the first one that I didn't care for the narrator. Nice voice but can not to different people.

Disappointing sequel

The first book was engaging and logical, this book was like a mish mash of fairy tales with no connecting thread. The reader was also too old for the age of the heroine. I will not be buying the next in the series.

I was wrong, or projecting: I love this reader now

I previously reviewed this performance as depressing, especially compared to the White Silence reader. i listened to it mostly in terrible settings for sound. i listened to it in quiet rooms recently, and was captivated by the reader's clear delight and engagement with the story.
that's it, me for a better sound system in my car!

Wonderful Sequel

I absolutely LOVED this book! I liked it even more than the first! Jodi Taylor’s writing is so engaging and I cannot wait for the next book in this series! Also note that while the narrator is different from the first book - I thought she did an excellent job!

Very dark

I miss St. Margaret's and the excellent mix of characters, light hearted comments as well as a great story line. this is turning into more of sureal horror series.

Very disappointed.

I loved every other book Jodi Foster wrote but this was more of a horror story. It lacked humor was kind of dark and grim. I am sorry I bought it.
