Publisher's summary

Lara Calladine is haunted by childhood memories of being held prisoner in an ice cave and kept sane by the whispered stories told to her by her imprisoned aunts. They instilled mage and Carpathian magic deep within her and then helped her escape. She has spent years searching for the cave in hopes of finding the answers to the riddle of her past as well as finding her aunts who may have given their lives saving her.

Nicolas De La Cruz has returned to the Carpathian Mountains - his homeland - on orders from his eldest brother, Zacarias, to bring news of a conspiracy to the prince of their people. He is weary of his long existence and plans to end it away from his brothers, where they will be unable to stop him once he has fulfilled his duty.

Lara and Nicolas' paths collide in an explosive adventure that rocks the Carpathian world.

Horrible Narration

I am a huge fan of the Christine Feehan’s Dark Series. However I found the book disappointing. While I love supernatural books I have to draw the line when spells are put in books made up or not. The worst part though is the narration. The narrator mutilated the Carpathian male accents, giving them a bad Bram Stockers Dracula sound. I can't believe the narrators bothered to read or get the background on the other books before reading this one. It was absolutely horrible and certainly did not live up to the narration of the other books. I couldn't get past the first hour before having to put it down and just go buy the book. My advise don't waste your money buy the physical book.

Loved It

I have been reading all the dark series - this is my 10th book. I was initially turned off because of the other reviews, but I have to disagree with them. I thought the action was great, loved all the men and women coming together and the romance was a plus. Narrators were fine as well. I recommend

Need Some Consistency With Narrators

Would you listen to Dark Curse again? Why?

No, I have read 19 of the Dark Series books and find it very frustrating for the characters that had great voices in the other books be reduced to the vampire drawl of Bella Lagosi. For example, Savannah who had such a great voice demonstrating a strong character was reduced to having a whiney Russian (I think) accent. Although I love the storyline, only when there is action, I cringed every time I heard the attempt at making, I guess, Romanian accents. Also, while I know these are part romance novels, the author spends way too much time describing every last detail. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't the same descriptions with the same outcome book after book.

What other book might you compare Dark Curse to and why?

This is my first vampire series. I try to stay away from repetitive material but now I am committed to finishing this series.

What didn’t you like about Phil Gigante and Jane Brown ’s performance?

I like when they used their own voices. It was horrible when they attempted to create accents for the characters. Can't believe Audible let them ruin the characters that way.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Dark Distress

Any additional comments?

No, think I have summed it up.

Narrators accents detracts from listening pleasure

I'm a huge fan on Christine Feehan's writing and snapped up this audible book and cancelled my amazon pre-order. However, I have to agree with another reader that the narration was dreadful. It was rather jolting to go from American accented narration to these really horrible dracula voices. The woman reader in particular was terrible at separating the voices of each female character because of the attempted accents. Just when I would get into the story, the bad accents would start up and I'd be destracted from the story by the accents. Read the book, skip the audio. Sorry, but don't let Christine hear this audio version, it might break her heart.

Disappointed

I was kind of disappointed by this book. The first issue was the narration. It was hard to listen to the accents and the harsh tones of the male characters. The story line was pretty good, but the childish rhyming spells became really annoying as the story went along. It wasn't the best in the dark series, but was adequate. I will definitely buy the book if the same narrators are used again.

I agree with Heather

I enjoyed this book, it answered questions and actually posed some more. With the creatures discussed I am wondering what Ms. Feehan has in store for the Carpathians. The narration did not bother me at all.

Love Narrators!!!

Would you listen to Dark Curse again? Why?

The narrators REALLY brought the story to life! I would listen to the book again and have. I love Christines books and have read them all.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dark Curse?

I thought the most memorable moment in the book was when Lara found the microbe in the women and removed them from Raven and Savannah during the healing ceremony. To me that was a hugh time/moment when they identified the microbes, saved Raven's and Savannah's babies and determine what was causing the miscarages. This was the hugh turning point to be able to fight Xavier. It was then that Mikhail new what was causing the death of the babies and that his people now had a chance to survive.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene was the Healing ceremony scene. The turning point in the fight against Xavier

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and I did.

Any additional comments?

I felt the narrators Phil and Jane did an OUTSTANDING JOB!!! EXCELENT TEAM! They brought you into the story. MADE IT REAL!!!

Book - 4 Narration - 5

I love C.Feehan books but for some reason did not like this one as much. I really like having both a male and female narrator! And Phil Gigante is, without a doubt, the best there is. Period. I like Jane Brown as well (but P. Gigante is just amazing). So, I know the narrating was great and not the reason for my lack of feeling this one like the others. Characterizations were good and the story was solid. I can't put my finger on it.

But, this book is a good addition to a library! And if you like C.Feehan, you will like this one!

Ugh

The male narration made me want to barf, the story included a lot of descriptive child abuse, and in my opinion probably the worst book of the series. For those of us who followed the series this was just...disappointing. For some reason the series now has it's own language and I moaned when the terrible narrator started singing, to me it has all made the series into a joke.

Badly narrated

I have read this story along with many many others by Christine Feehan. She's an amazing author and I feel that this narrated version really takes so much from the story. The voices are badly accented and voice effects for when they are conversing mind to mind are ridiculous instead of sounding real.
I couldn't listen past chapter 2, and as there is no other narrated version of the book available I will read it instead and actually enjoy the wonderful writing rather than be distracted by silly voices. I wanted to listen to a story, not listen to bad voice acting interpretations.

This… 💕

Lara & Nicolas is most probably my favourite couple & their love story in the Dark Series is one of my favourite. The dual narration was such a added plus… (about darn time) 🤭

I love this story because it’s heartbreakingly romantic with twist, turns and with a healthy dose of suspense. Of course the plot continues to thicken… the continuity of this series never ever gets old. I’ve read most of the books and now I am enjoying the audiobooks second time around.

This romance/paranormal series is so special to me & one can’t help but feel part of this Carpathian family. And it’s a big family…
Indeed.
Much Love 💕
Bri.

male and female narration so much better

with 2 narrator's it was much easier also loved the change in audio when they speak telepathic so fat only four books have been done thus way and more should be , one man alone trying to do female voices sounds stupid and takes away from the story

Any additional comments?

I LIKE THIS SERIES ALTHOUGH I WOULD SAY TO THE AUTHOR THAT SHE HAS TO TAKE CARE NOT TO MAKE EVERY LEAD MALE HAVE THE SAME PERSONALITY

Dark Curse

While i live this book the narrators need to remember that these characters appear in previous books - everyone sounded like very bad Dracula impersonations - Skyler for example was raised in Paris but she suddenly sounds Romanian and Destiny is from Seattle and she sounds like a New Orleans native and finally Nicolas De La Cruz who has lived in the Brazilian rain forest for centuries sounds like a Transylvanian vampire - not nice to listen to . Sorry

Excellent Story

This is the story of Lara Calladine and Nicolas De La Cruz. Lara is scarred from terrible experiences in her childhood and has begun to question if the things really happened so she returns to the Carpathian Mountains to go caving in an effort to find her two missing aunts and father who got her through her childhood trapped in an ice cave before she escaped. There she meets Nicolas and sparks fly, it is a rocky road at the start of their relationship due to the arrogance of Nicolas and the fears that haunt Lara but, he is a fast learner and together they just might be a vital part of the Carpathian community and the saving of the race. I loved this story and particularly enjoyed the way the story was related. I highly recomment the story and the series as a whole.

Very good

To be honest while I loved listening to this what I didn't like about it was the voices in the minds. it sounded like they were in a tunnel which was very distracting. It sounded awful which is why I have only given it 4 stars.
As for the ending of the story I was a bit disappointed I thought that Laura could of been converted and still held her skills
