Great value

If you like true crime then this is a must have. It features a long list of pithy cases from some of the best authors in the genre.
The cases are not all very long nor suspenseful, yet they do paint a clear picture of North American crime. On that note, the quick barage of horrific depravity is sometimes too much.
The narration is clear (although slightly raspy in a noir sort of way, which I like) and professional, and the book is conveniently divided into about 120 chapters (some of these are just brief introductions). I hope more box sets like this are published. It gives you a chance to try out new authors without wasting too much time or credits.

bang for your buck!

I enjoyed this book. for the price of one credit you get 116 chapters full of the best stories from a dozen states.

I enjoyed the tales of crimes from the early 19th century (and earlier) that don't get much spotlight, and liked the fact that when it came to the big three [Gacy, Bundy, Dahmer] they didn't overshadow the other stories.

you only get a taste, but like the perfect bite, you get all you need in it. it leaves you satisfied, but not opposed to having more. several stories had updates on the status of those involved.

the decision to have Kevin Pierce narrate was masterful, he truly is one of the best narrators on the game.

being a huge true crime fan I heard a lot of stories I already knew, and heard a lot that I hadn't. I thought the section with the interview with famed criminalist Henry Lee was a great departure.

overall don't come to this book thinking you're going to have s full breakdown of every story told, it's a abridged version of an abridged version, but that doesn't mean it isn't good.

Repetitive, very short stories

After listening to 'Son', also read by Kevin Pierce, I was ready for more True Crime by this exceptional narrator. I mistakenly assumed the collection would be multiple stories of an hour or two each, but instead found that most lasted only minutes, with 20 being long and the average tale closer to 5. After a few hours the format became tiring.

Captivating short stories

I enjoyed this book because I primarily listened to it during my commute and the book is broken down into short stories. Although the narrator had a very flat affect, he still told the story well and kept my interest.

Dallman the facts and no fluff

The authors do an exceptional job of presenting these countless stories from a strictly fact based perspective. At first, I was disappointed that there was not more analysis of each killer. However, as I continued to listen, I grew to appreciate that each author stuck to the facts that are researchable and left it to the listener to decipher the motive behind a lot of these atrocities. Well narrated and well written

Kevin Pierce is a definite favorite

Being a huge fan of true crime, I knew I would enjoy this. Being a fan of Kevin Pierce as narrator just sealed the deal. Factual, to the point & truly enjoyed the "snipits" of each story. Enough to get the information & leave u almost wanting more, but satisfied. Would recommend to anyone who likes the true crime genre. No matter how many of these I listen to it never ceases to amaze me the horrific truth behind some of these crimes. Heartbreaking that human nature can turn so devious.

Gory but no story.

There’s a line between true crime and a a pulpy pump of adrenaline. This collection pretends to probe into the psychology and detective work involved in the murders, but falls way short. Chapters are short and mostly center on the gory details of each murder without asking or answering any substantive questions. An hour in, I felt more creeped out at myself for listening than I did about any of the crimes I wanna as told about. Deleted and moved on.
