Publisher's Summary

After traveling the world for many years and speaking at hundreds of churches of all kinds, Paul David Tripp is concerned about the state of pastoral culture. He is not only concerned about the spiritual life of the pastor, but with the very people who train him, call him, relate to him, and restore him if necessary.

Dangerous Calling reveals the truth that the culture surrounding our pastors is spiritually unhealthy - an environment that actively undermines the wellbeing and efficacy of our church leaders and thus the entire church body. Here is a book that both diagnoses and offers cures for issues that impact every member and church leader, and gives solid strategies for fighting the war that rages not only in the momentous moments of ministry, but also in the mundane day-by-day life of every pastor.

Heart Surgery

Where does Dangerous Calling rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

With regard to content, this book is in my top 5 favorite audiobooks.

What other book might you compare Dangerous Calling to and why?

Richard Baxter's "The Reformed Pastor". The reason why is that Baxter and Tripp both do you a great service in helping you do a thorough (and painful) self-examination.

What does Maurice England bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I think Maurice does a wonderful job reading the content. As I was listening, I found myself forgetting that I was being read to - a quality I appreciate. Get out of the way of the content. Great job, Maurice.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not in particular, but in the whole, I was greatly refreshed and warned.

Any additional comments?

This is a must-read/listen for anyone serving in ministry in any capacity. I hope to pass this book on to my sons when the time comes.

Dangerous Calling - Excellent

I was totally sucked in. Listened to most of it driving from PA to NY. It was practical and yet I found myself moved to worship.

A Must Read For Pastors

What did you love best about Dangerous Calling?

Tripp is great at explaining to pastors the dangers they face in the ministry. Often leaders don't see the dangers they can fall into in ministry. We have a tendency to people the people that seek to give help others but forget that we are also in need of help. In addition, He points out, again and again, the need of internal examination for the pastor.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It wasn't really a story. My reaction to this book is that I need to change many areas of my life. This book helps you to remove the scales from your eyes as you think about your own self.

What about Maurice England’s performance did you like?

Very clear reader.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, you don't want to listen to this book in one sitting. You want to rather listen to a chapter and stop to think about what the author is saying. Just examine yourselves.

Any additional comments?

Most likely you don't realize areas in your life that need to be changed because you are like all of us blind to your own blindness. I recommend this book to all believers and especially anyone that has any type of ministry in the church.

excellent mirror for pastors

This book is an excellent resource for pastors who are called to the ministry and need to remember that they also need personal ministry themselves to remain effective in what God has called them to.
