Publisher's summary

Damon DeMasters is a vampire warrior who has taken an oath to not only protect his own kind, but humans as well. Crimson Rush is the new drug on the streets, and it's their duty to find who is behind the selling of vampire blood and stop it.

A social worker, Nicole Callahan, fights for the right of every child placed in her care. There's a war now, as vampires have stepped out into the spotlight taking their place in society, and the children are at the heart of it all.

Damon and his fellow warriors have been ordered by the Vampire Council to train Nicole and her colleagues against the dangers they now face in their new world. Even as sparks fly and tensions mount, Nicole and Damon depend on each other to protect the children of both races.

Good read..So-so narration..

I really like Damon, Jared and Duncan. They are all so big, bad, handsome and heroic. Awesome vamps. I like Nicole, too, but I was afraid she was going to have a TSTL moment. Instead she agreed to have a bodyguard once she found out there was a hit out on her. You know, instead of saying "I can take care of myself," like soooo many authors are wont to do, making their heroine TSTL.

This was a good story, with incredible vamps and strong secondary characters, Pam and Mitch were just great. A strong storyline about a street-drug called Crimson Rush made with vampire blood, and vampire kids in danger of being used, and Nicole and Damon trying to take care of them. Not really a cliffhanger but not an end to it either. There are 8 books in this series and I’d hate to think you don’t find out who the head honcho is until the last book.

As with a lot of vampire and human couple Damon was afraid to “turn” Nicole because the first woman he tried to do that to died. I mean, it worked out but what Nocole did was rather silly. Would anyone really choose to die for someone they’ve only known a month or so?

And Chad? What a whack-job he was. AND he had to be the most disgusting drooling man I’d ever read about. Gross. He was a great bad guy.

This book did have some sexual tension and explicit sex. There was a little swearing, because of the “swearing jar,” and the F-bomb was used 25 times.

The ending was so abrupt I couldn’t believe it. It was very disappointing. It should have been a little more romantic, something other than how it ended. Oh, it was a HEA but the last lines seemed a little ridiculous.

As to the narration: He was OK. I don’t see how he got all those 5 star reviews. He had absolutely no emotion: when the book called for a laugh he didn’t, and when Damon and Jared were sneaking up on the house where the captive was being held the narrator just spoke in a regular tone, no whispering at all. And the women were pretty masculine sounding, a lot more than they should be. So, no, he wasn’t a 5 star narrator. He wasn't horrible but he could have, at least, tried harder with the women’s voices.

Great book

A great beginning to a series Terrific characters .I got this book on auto and love it .The narrator’s voice is very deep .Damon is an alpha vampire and a warrior. Nicole Callahan is a social worker, She is an extremely dedicated to protecting children, both human and vampire, and will stop at nothing to make sure there are not harmed. The whole story was fascinating .Yes buy the book; it’s a good vampire book, with some action, decent romance scenes and funny interaction between characters. It was definitely a five star story. I'm looking forward to reading the next Series I cant wait to read more about these vampire .

Loved It!

I really enjoyed this story about Damon and Nicole. I think author Teresa Gableman did an extraordinary job writing this story. If not for the vampires in the story it would have felt like a true story. I enjoyed the chemistry that the two main characters have. I love the determination that comes from the female social worker. The author has written a great story and I'm hooked. The story is filled with mystery, action, love, sadness, and plenty of twist and turns along the way.

Narrator Jeffrey Kafer did a wonderful job with his narration of this story. I especially enjoyed his accents and it felt like he connected to the story perfectly. I could feel the characters emotions and that felt so real. I highly recommend this story, 5 stars. I received this audio in exchange for an honest review.

I liked the story

I enjoyed the story and really wished the book was longer so the characters and storyline had time to really develop.

Weak warriors/protectors

This book fell below my expectations as I couldn't see what differences humans and vampires had absent blood drinking and 1 read the minds of others,
The narrator was dry and didn't add anything to this weak beginning. I want to read book 2 because there's potential.

Decent story idea, a little slow moving

I struggled to get this one off the ground. The ideas are decent, but the execution is plodding and dry. The sex is awkward and feels contrived. The characters aren't well developed and the narrator doesn't help. He does fine witn the voices, but monotone his way through the storyline. I've heard him narrate other things just fine, so all I can think is that perhaps he was as bored by it as i was. The story picked up toward the end and ended okay. All that being said, this is an older book, so i may try one of the author's more recent works to see what they are like.
