Vampire hunter Sam Harlan at it again.

Here we have a glimpse in the life of vampire hunter Sam Harlan. In this episode Sam is set against witches and demons, which are quite outside of his normal purview. Sam and his Sister-partner Callie are sent by the church to find a missing girl. It is soon made clear that the situation is much more dangerous than thought to be. Sam is continually reminded that he knows little of the paranormal world, surviving by the skin of his teeth and the Grace of God. This is an exciting and fast-paced adventure, urging me to find the first two volumes to catch up on the action. Although this is book three of the series, and not having read the first two volumes, it was still able to stand on its own without much trouble. This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.

A solid 3rd book in the series

The story line, as with the previous book in the series, is an interesting take on the vampire hunter genre. I thought the characters and dialog were engaging and the narration was good too. All in all, a very enjoyable book. I will definitely look to continue the series.

A vampire hunter...

I wasn't sure at first but as the story continued I got more vested. The main caracter is a man with a vampire blood. He's not a vampire but would be if he died instead he has a cravin for meat and anger issues.

The story has plenty of plot twists yet is still easy to follow and intriguing. The characters are personable and some despicable. Its a great mystery that had me guessing all the way through.

Great listen with an intriguing story and interesting characters. Great narrator as well, he really captures the characters. I received a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Solid urban fantasy.

Damned Cold is a solid urban fantasy, but I must admit I had a bit of trouble deciding on a review score. In the end I decided to round up a bit. After all the issue I had with it was my own fault. You see I hadn't realized it was the third book in the series when I started listening, so I must confess I felt a bit lost as to who the characters were and what had befallen them in past volumes. That being said I the story itself is quite good and now I am interested in going back and checking out Sam's earlier adventures, which will likely make me appreciate this book more.

The book is narrated by David Loving. I've listened to a number of books he's narrated and must say he has a very distinct voice which I thought worked quite well for the genre.

Best so far

This series is getting better and better. Really enjoyed this story a lot, the author is really building a good mythos with plenty of action. Narration is perfect throughout.

Vampire Hunter!

I have to say that I have not listened/read the previous books in this series. I did not realise when I picked this audiobook that it was third in the series. However, I felt that I did not miss anything from the previous book since the author explained things in this book, everything made sense.
This story was actually a lot more interesting then I expected. It reminded me a bit of the movie, the last witch hunter.
I really liked it and I would recommend it.
There is some profanity and violence.

Interesting story

This is the first book by Kevin Lee Swaim that I have read or listened to. It was enjoyable and kept me guessing as to what was going on. It had vampires, demons and religion and I had to play it all the way though at one time. I believe this is the third story with the character of Sam Harlan and now I need to read the first two. The narrator was very good and had a great voice for a story like this.

Good twisty supernatural

What did you like best about Damned Cold? What did you like least?

I somehow didn't quite identify with the hunter. His character has weird traits. His brand of wit/humor wasn't something I liked much. I haven't read the first too books of the series and thus don't know whether there are events in there that flesh out the character this way. Anyway, it felt sort of weird / forced to me.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I wouldn't call it edge of the seat, but the story was interesting enough that I wanted to finish it asap. There were several twists that I didn't see coming and it was a thrilling ride for most part.

Do you think Damned Cold needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I read other reviews that say each book is better than the previous. So, I would guess if there were book 4, book 5 etc, they would be even better than book 3. So, I'd say keep them coming.

I need more Sam Harlan

As with books 1 & 2, I enjoyed almost every second of this book. I was thrilled with Sam and his evolvement without Jack and his influence to stifle him as with book 1. The last 2 books, I've listened while Sam has grown into his own "vampire hunter" persona and I am not disappointed. I did have to shed a few tears through this book with the Fathers'...I won't say any more on that, I don't like spoilers. But just prepare your feelings. Looking forward to book 4.
