Publisher's summary

If you have to be stuck in a curse with monsters, they might as well be sexy monsters.

When I answered an ad for a caretaker at Saint Mark’s Sanctuary, I thought I’d be dusting chandeliers and polishing floors. I didn’t expect to be tricked into a curse, going into debt to a monster, and being forced to take a self-paced “let’s learn magic” course so I can fix a 2,000-year-old problem.

And that monster? Not your ordinary, everyday beast. He has hooves, and horns, and fur on his legs. But you know where he doesn’t have fur? Yeah. There. Which is fine. Except he doesn’t wear pants.

Nothing at Saint Mark’s is exactly what it seems. The entire inside is magic, the hallways upstairs are nothing but parties from the past, and the super-hot guy who lives in the dungeon? Yeah. Not human.

My name is Pie, and all I want is to be a normal girl with an average life. I refuse to get stuck in this curse. I refuse to learn magic to break it. And there is no way in hell I will fall in love with a monster. Famous. Last. Words.

Torn on this one

I don't typically write reviews, but I feel like I should on this one. The writing was good, the narration was great, and it was a good story.

my biggest issues was the romance/sex stuff in the book. I'm not a prude I just don't like romances. I thought I was purchasing a fantasy novel and it is fantasy. the sex stuff was just over the top for me.

just not my cup of tea

Brilliant!

Five stars are not enough for this world of Gods and Monsters. K. C. Cross, aka JA Huss, nailed it again. I'm not a fan of PNR reads, but again Huss is writing it, and look at that cover, how could you not be intrigued.

This world was magical, fun, and fascinating. I didn't want it to end. I got so lost in it that after I finished, I had to grab the audiobook and get lost in that too because, Duh! Jason Clarke and Hathaway Lee, made this world come to life. They made you feel as if you were experiencing the words they were reading. I love it when an author and narrator can do that. Bring a book so alive!! I can't wait for book two!

MONSTERS & MAYHEM.. DONE BY A MAESTRO STORYTELLER💕

What a fun fantasy/paranormal world twenty five year old Pie gets trapped in.. a curse, magic, monsters, a ring, an Eros, potions, Gods, myths, spells, and mysterious strings. One of the strings Pie unwittingly walks into is becoming trapped in St. Mark’s as it’s caretaker.. and bound to a hoofed horned sexy Satyr Chimera monster called Pell. And, with the help of Tomas another ‘strange’ resident trapped in The Sanctuary for 2,000 years, Pie slowly settles into her strange new role and its bizarre rules.. and into the ever-changing even stranger house. But Pell…..??, well he’s a whole other wonderfully weird story.

The intrigue and outstanding multi-layered world-building by KCK (aka JA Huss) is absolutely phenomenal and epic. Her flawed characters draw you in as Pie, Pell, Tomas and Pie’s imaginary (or not) talking colorful sparrow Pia take you on a fantastical quest with boundless paranormal possibilities. The quick-witted banter and animosity between Pie and Pell was such fun as they went head-to-head.. once Pie had stopped screaming of course!! I’m in awe over Julie’s complex creativity and vivid descriptions and how she masterfully weaves a sweet sizzling enemies-lovers romance within its chapters. And who better to bring out Pell’s monstrous side, his warmth, his sex appeal and charm other than the supremely talented Jason Clarke who makes every book a joy 😘x.. and Hathaway Lee did a brilliant job too bringing Pie’s alternate POV chapters and characters to life.

Worth a credit? Yes, it blew by mind.. and I’m so looking forward to Book two sometime next year.. no pressure Julie.. my EOBS 😉.

The weirdest book i ever read

Ok. So ... it was a little weird for me. As if the writer was completely stoned when she wrote this. I felt that the world of the gods and monsters was not cooked to the end. And the story did not explain itself so the writer wrote parts that the characters explain what is happening.
As for the romantic part, almost non-existent. The heat level here is very low.
But the performance of the announcers was excellent! That's the only reason I was able to listen to the end.

Amazing

Another amazing series by JA Huss! I always wait for the audiobook and this performance stands out as one of the best! Couldn’t imaging anyone else doing the narration.

Holy horn-job! Love that twisted tale

“What do you get when you cross a nymph with a satyr-Minotaur hybrid?
Some very tall, very strong, very handsome, evil looking MFers: us, that’s what you get.”
This author is bonkers and I love, love, love her ferret on meth watching Barbarella and thinking
‘hold my beer’ enthusiasm. She’s got a pretty spot-on sense of self, like in her End Of Book recognition that her first books in a series are the most fun for her to write. As such, I’ve found her first books to be the most entertaining to listen to. She looks at a genre, warps it, pushes as many boundaries as she can, and usually sexes it up to ghost peppers in your panties.

“What kind of pie is she? Meat pie, Shepherds pie, fruit pie?
And why is she named after pie if she refuses to cook?”
The cover art is fantastic, and helps especially in the beginning, when this has the feel of a dark, bent,
p😜rny Beauty and the Beast. (Jason Clarke does Pell to growly perfection). But, this is also funny and ludicrous, like Alice In Wonderland falling down the rabbit hole and encountering one impossible to grasp situation after another.

“It’s all going to be fine because I’m your er3ction protection breath.”
This does have a “cover your ears” over the top section, but it’s seven hours in, is not as smutty
(or voluminous or multitudinous) as in some of her other series. I very much liked the smex to story ratio. And oh, what a story! It’s twisty and mind blowing and entertaining and romantic. Perhaps the later books will fall apart, but not today, Satan, not today. Today, I thank the twisted Greek gods from this book for the bonkers bacchanalia I just listened to.

imaginative

did not know this was a part romance book. not my usual choice but rated on story and character, which were excellent, rather than on my disappointment regarding my choice.

Love every bit of this book!

Right from the start this book hooks you in. It has great humor, sexy scenes, mystery, and colorful characters. I love how she can write a scene so clearly, with great flow that it's easy to picture, like watching a movie. I'm in love with the narration in this book! I hope to be hearing more from Hathaway Lee, she is really quite amazing! I love listening to the awesome Jason Clark as well. I also love to hear the author narrate her EOBS (End Of Book Shit)

Deserves more than 5 stars.

Teehee! Been waiting for this 😁
Woah. 🤯 I need the next book. I don't even know what to say other than this was amazing and I'd give it more than 5 stars if possible. Couldn't not finish listening in one go. Jason and Hathaway brought the characters to life imo.

What a crazy book

Ever time I finish a Julie book I’m always shocked. That brain of hers can go anywhere and does. This is a awesome book and the narration is great. I’m looking to book 2.
