A brand new Western adventure from Paul L. Thompson and Malcolm Hotzman!

Dalton Brisco rides into town and sees the sheriff of San Angelo, Texas, gunned down. After he kills the two men involved in killing the sheriff, Brisco finds himself in the unusual position of being a gunfighter wearing the sheriff’s tin star. Out-gunned and out-manned, Brisco has to devise a plan to keep the town from being taken over by a crew of gunmen, cattle rustlers, and horse thieves.

This was a very entertaining listen and definitely has me interested in checking out more from these authors. The story drops you right into the action when Dalton Brisco rides into town just in time to witness the sheriff of San Angelo murdered. After stepping in and taking down the killers, Brisco unexpectedly finds himself wearing the sheriff’s badge and facing a town on the brink of being overrun by gunmen, rustlers, and thieves. It’s a classic Western setup with plenty of tension, action, and grit. The narration by Henry Marshall was solid and fit the tone of the story well, making this an enjoyable and engaging listen.

This main character is a drifter at the time of this story. In his past he did whatever the person who hired him requested. Now taking time with no boss and just traveling, he stumbles in to a conflict. He comes across as a a fast shooter, but honorable in his intentions. Narrator does a nice job on this entire storyline.

Paul L. Thompson and Malcolm Hotzman, separately, are bestsellers in the Western genre, and this team-up is a real treat. The titular character, Dalton Brisco, is as fine a Western creation as I've ever had the pleasure to 'get to know' so to speak. Full of the requisite action one expects from a good tale of the old West, with the added bonus of whip-crack dialogue, puts this one as a frontrunner in my Audible library in the Western category.

Henry Marshall's narration was every bit as good as I had hoped it would be, based on the sample you get here on Audible and on the Amazon page. His attention to character detail and nuance is superb and I look forward to listening to more titles narrated by him, hopefully of this series in particular.

Five out of five stars all the way across the board for this one.
