The Net is a dangerous place…

Kai barely survived his encounter with the rogue AI calling itself “The God in the Machine” in the dark net. Promoted to level two with no time to recover, he has gained access to all Helltek has to offer. Life on the campus could be perfect except that Cyber Squad is one of the most high-risk jobs in the world. If the murderous AI wasn’t bad enough, the hackers who attacked TSOTA are up to no good, and a traitor within the Cyber Squad is helping them. Nothing and no one are what they seem. Not even Alice, Kai’s dream girl, who’s way more mysterious than he would have thought. Kai soon finds himself in the center of a massive conspiracy.

Luckily his team members have his back. But, will it be enough to beat forces as powerful as they’re malicious? The LitRPG adventure continues!

Next Level LitRPG!

As a fan of LitRPG and CyberPunk I was thrilled when this series dropped. But, as a reader of LitRPG I've grown accustomed to merely adequate story telling, and story craft. Anna Mocikat just took what i was accustomed to and shattered it like the reflection of bad writing it was. expertly she crafted a story with interesting and compelling characters and a storyline line that kept you guessing and hooked. This is what LitRPG wanted to be when it grew up. Kai is back. fresh from recovering from his encounter with the devious AI and the hacker who arranged the visit. With a new implant his old gamer personality is gone, but his new position at Heltech is growing faster than anyone can believe. But the AIs are watching, the government is snooping and not even Alice can keep Kai from finding new ways to get in trouble.

Just WOW

Yeah this was a great book. The action, the drama, super attractive girls, and the mysteries that I still can't wrap my head around. This series just keeps getting better and better. In more ways than just the title. this book was next level.

interesting and fun... getting a bit romancey

Sure, the story is fun, writing is good, and performance is really good. I know a bunch want some love interest, but I don't think the story needed it... to each there own. Still, really fun, will likely keep going when I have time.

Can’t wait for Level 3!

I have read a bunch of RPGLit/Sci-fi/Cyberpunk books where the hero is in cyberspace. It is a great idea, usually action-packed, cool sidekicks, often a bit pulpy. Most of the time, after the last giant baddie is done away with, you can move on. Your investment in the world is finished.
I fully expected a series called “Cyber Squad” to be just that. Fun, but maybe that’s all. I was surprised at how much fun these were. The plot moves smoothly and there are some tropes employed, but there are also questions about everyone’s intentions and the nature of the company. The action scenes are suspenseful and satisfying, but it feels like there are some shifty cyberpunk themes boiling up beneath the action and cool characters. The narrator was great as well. Can’t wait for Level 3.

The story continues

Other than the MC being infatuated, the story is solid and a great palate cleanser from all the litrpg I listen to. Check out this fun story.

level up to more adventure

No disappointment here. Level 2 had even more intensity, action, Kai and the god in the Machine. There was some mystery, a little suspense, and tension within the Cyber Squad and out. There was just a world of more.

Zachary delivers again. There is just something about his voice and the characters that makes him just a great cast for narrator of science fiction, fantasy, and paranormal.

A Great Sequel

The mystery of what is going on at Heltek intensifies nicely in the book. As the story progresses, it often feels like Kai is just an unfortunate critter caught in the most insidious pitcher plant in human history. He’s even tacitly aware of it, I think, but torn by a loyalty to his friends, his love of the job, and an unattainable girl—keep him rooted in the trap. It’s an interesting dilemma to watch a young man try to navigate.

Mocikat, per usual, shines in her intense and varied fight scenes in this action-packed sci-fi story. As that action was playing out in this novel, though, I became aware of how much I enjoyed her aesthetics for settings in this book. Kai and the rest of Cyber Squad work and play in some of the most exciting VR scenarios, which helps. It’s when shit starts going wrong, though, that the awesome environmental effects happen. A lot of the imagery, such as a sky ripping open, for example, has a biblical flavor of terror behind it that I enjoyed.

“Cyber Squad Level 2,” like its predecessor, is a fast-moving novel, and it’s an exciting book. With less introducing and explaining to do, Mocikat is far freer to take us deeper into the world of her story. It’s a place equally sublime and dangerous—and I enjoyed vicariously experiencing it as Kai explored his new life.

While I wasn’t particularly won over by the romantic element in this particular Mocikat story, I enjoyed the banter and how all the other characters’ relationships grew and deepened.
