Publisher's summary

Set in modern-day Afghanistan, the fascinating story of a very young behind-the-lines British agent and a chance saving of 20 captured girls condemned to a life of slavery and abuse. The Afghan girls and the agent form an alliance. As time passes, the 20 Afghan girls support the agent, a 17-year-old specialist known only as "The Commander", in a number of covert and very dangerous missions. Then love and fate join hands, and the team decides to join the agent full time. They train endlessly, the oldest 17, the youngest just 12. This is done with the help of a female British army officer who helps fashion the team into a military fighting unit.

From horror, rejection, shame, and adversity, the Afghan girls become a unique fighting unit, excelling at all they do, their lives like steel forged in fire, now so strong.

This is the first book in a series of six.

Kiss the blade

action-adventure, military, satire, humour, situational-humour*****

The Commander is a seventeen year old behind-the-military-lines British agent working mostly in Afghanistan and following in his father's footsteps. His forte is unarmed combat using only wits and blades (and tigers). In some ways he reminds me of Flashman in his perfection in everything (but not the lechery). There are lots of bodies/casualties on the enemy side as well as the British and American forces. Very enjoyable.
Graham Mack brought this story to life, he has a dynamic voice and his accents are spot on.

Ugh

The performance was pretty good.

The whole story though, I kept thinking about the Commander "this is the definition of a Mary Sue." Anything he tries he's the best ever at. Any hardship he faces is a minor inconvenience. Except the one dimensional foes, everyone loves him and looks up to him, and is jealous of anyone else he spends time with.

The story was a fair attempt, however since you knew the main character was going to waltz through the most difficult of tasks it was hard to get emotionally invested.

I received a copy of this book at my request, in exchange for a fair review.

GOOD READ!

I enjoyed it! This book was full of action, drama and suspense! The narration was good and kept me entertained! The author did a good job with the character builds and plot! This was my first book by this author but definitely not my last! I look forward to reading the next book in this series!
