It's hard enough being an undergraduate student, an intern at Downtown Manhattan's police station, and a bouncer at a local bar. Add her now-ex-boyfriend who recently dumped her for the school's resident bimbo - oh, and she's a werewolf. Mackenzie Grey meets her match when she is kidnapped by the Brooklyn Pack and tossed between Sebastian and Jonah - the Alpha and the Beta. Being a lone wolf in the city is dangerous, and now that the Pack has found her, so can every supernatural being in the Tri-State area.

I wouldn’t say my life is a dumpster fire — but it’s far from typical. I’m frenemies with the local werewolves’ Alpha, my clients are shady as hell, and my magic falls firmly in the WTF category. Mephisto, my mysterious and powerful client, is more interested in my magic than the jobs he’s hired me for. And I’m pretty sure my court-ordered therapist thinks I’m an ass.

My name is Leah, and I am a Cazador. Trained to hunt and kill vampires over 300 years ago, my training became essential once I became one of those monsters. The underbelly of the supernatural world has begun to bleed into the human world, and journalist Rachel Sambrook is asking too many dangerous questions. Unwittingly, she's revealed a conspiracy I had hoped would never become a reality: using vampire blood for human experiments. As I attempt to contain her, she's by my side, and the truth of just how deep the darkness goes is exposed.

Publisher's Summary
Blood is going to spill....
I just hope it won't be mine.
After two weeks of searching, I found the seven-year-old I'd been hired to find too late. His body broken and discarded. Dead.
My boss doesn't want me to hunt down his killers. It's too dangerous.
But the Pacific Northwest Pack steps in, hiring me to bring the bastards to justice.
Turns out the kid was half shifter. And shifters don't abandon their own.
In a search that takes me through the maze of shifter hierarchy and the depths of the paranormal underworld, these killers underestimate how determined I am to mete out their punishment. Vigilante justice is the only kind these people understand.
Yes, blood will spill. And I'm determined it will be theirs.
You'll love Cursed by Fire because its a fast-paced urban fantasy novel with a kick-butt heroine and unexpected twists around every corner.

action packed
Danielle Annett really brought it with this book. I read many reviews on this book and some of the clan names and the virus and stuff may be like other series by other people but the story line itself is totally different and I enjoyed it. I couldn't help but to keep listening. Nicole Poole is the narrator and she does a great job of bringing this story to life for us as well. Her voices were top notch and the expression and energy gives the characters and story in general was awesome. The book brings together humans, shifters, vamps, mystery and murder.
After the awakening, where humans and supernaturals were brought together a Shifter child is brutely murdered and our main character Aria who has the ability of pyrokinesis is out to find the killer. She is partnered up with her friend James who is the hunter for the Wolf Clan, yep he is a Wolf Shifter. She also gets a new neighbor who turns out to be more than just a neighbor. A missing mother appears. more people are murdered and Aria ends up looking to the clans for protection and help. I don;t want to say a whole lot about this book because I don't want to give away to much. Each part is in the end intertwined.
Now I was not the most thrilled with the abrupt end. But than again this is just book 1 of a series. I am hoping my questions will be answered in other books of this series. The story did end the current case but left some wide open questions with little tidbits from the book. Like her Mother. What's up with that? I need to know.

This will fire up your ears with a great listen
Book 1 in the series. You know your in for a great story once you hear the first sentence. It starts with a mystery where the author has you guessing where the story will take you . You can feel that the way the world is known will be changed forever . Humans will be shocked by what beings was right in front on them .
Aria is the female lead in the story. She is also a mercenary. Aria has kept what she is a secret. She has special powers that she inherited from her father .... she is has psychokinesis powers . Aria father tells her not to trust anyone with her secret. They might turn on her . Aria has one goal .She is tasked by finding the killer of a seven yr old boy . Aria will move heaven and earth to find the killer . She thinks it’s a vampire. She doesn’t want to start a war with the vamps but she will if she has to . Things heat up when a shifter and a vampire are murdered . So who is out there killing the paranormal. Is it humans ? Will someone help Aria with the investigation. I don’t want to spoil it. Grab it and see ...
I can’t say enough of Nicole Poole performance. She is perfection . Her voice is strong but smooth also .

Aria is a spitfire (pun intended)
First off, let me tell you that this book was not like any I've read recently.. I loved Aria Naveed's snark and witty comebacks for everything. When she called him a furball, I spit my drink all over my steering wheel! This book was so enticing from beginning to end and then the ending just leaves you wanting so much more! Being a pyrokinetic sounds both awesome and tiring, but in her line of work, I'm impressed! I didn't trust that one guy (remaining nameless for the sake of spoilers) from the get go! But I really REALLY loved the scene in the gym where things started heating up! I liked that this book wasn't innocent entirely, but it was clean enough for me to be okay listening to it with my 12yr old niece in the car. After read... I mean... listening to book one, I can't wait to get my hands on book two! I adore Nicole Poole's ability to have such a range of voices that all are convincing for the area as well as the genders and characteristics described! I highly recommend this book if you're looking for a mostly clean paranormal read!

Nice Paranormal Mystery
When I listen to an audiobook, the first thing I pay attention to is the narrator. Nicole Poole changes her voice between characters decently, but I often found her to be a little flat emotionally and even a little monotone at times.
The story was good with a wide variety of supernaturals. The focus in this one is shifters and vampires and so far, I’m team shifter. Aria is smart and tough. I like James a lot, but I will need to see more of Declan to decide on him.
The romance aspect had a few different options so there was no closure in that department. The book didn’t end in a cliffhanger, but it was very open ended with no resolution. Aria’s story is FAR from finished.
Cursed by Fire was an action packed mystery filled with twists and turns. Don’t miss it!

Great Start & Action Packed
This was an action packed start to a new urban fantasy series! Years ago during the Awakening, paranormals revealed themselves to the humans. Humans no longer have the dominant power and vampires and shifters are constantly battling to be on top. The story grips you from the start when Aria, a human mercenary with special abilities, finds the seven year old boy she was looking for dead. She teams up with James, a shifter from the Pack, to solve the case, but it’s not as simple as it seems. As bodies continue pilling up, pinning the vampires and shifters against one another, the war for power continues to brew at a more rapid pace. Aria is determined and nothing will stop her from getting justice for every murder. Throughout this book, secrets are revealed and not everyone is who they seem to be. I really loved Aria’s character- she was very realistic and relatable with her constant struggle of impulse and self control and willing to fight for what she believed in. I enjoyed learning about the different factions, where they lived, and where they stood in society. I couldn’t put this book down and I can’t wait for more of this world!
Nicole did an amazing job with this narration! She had very distinct voices for each character, had a smooth transition between them, and could do male voices very well. I feel like she could portray every scene and emotion in this book and kept me hooked from the start!

What an excellent new series!
If you want a story you can get lost in, then this is the book for you. This is definitely a must listen/read series. I started this book this morning and hated to put it down. The author has a well written story and she a very interesting storyline. You will laugh out loud and cry with the emotional roller coaster ride. This is only the first book in the series and I can’t wait for the next book.
The narrator does a fabulous job with the characters and voices of each of the characters. I enjoyed listening to this narrator, she has a very pleasant voice. She does an excellent male and female voices. I definitely recommend this book!!

Great start with a strong heroine
I really enjoyed listening to Cursed by Fire. The story was easy to listen to, had a few twists and felt comfortable for those that read paranormal stories. Nicole Poole did a fantastic job as a strong sleuthing merc Aria. Her voice resonated well for Aria and for the male characters in the story. The story concluded but left enough threads to keep going into more stories and for the listener to want more.
Minor spoilers:
I was confused a bit as there were constant references to a big past event. I had to go back and check if there was a previous book I might have missed, there wasn’t. Perhaps the next few books will give more information about the event. There were also some other places where I had to stop and wonder if Aria wasn’t being played and shouldn’t she know it. I liked that the story didn’t pull any punches as far as characters. When something bad happened, there wasn’t a miracle cure that had people surviving injury and even death.
