Publisher's Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

As a society, we push aside stories of remarkable recovery which don't fit our paradigm of one cause, one cure.

In the history of medicine, we have almost never used the tools of rigorous science to investigate remarkable recoveries from incurable illnesses. But, Dr Jeff Rediger, a world-leading Harvard medic, psychiatrist and theologian, has spent the last 15 years studying thousands of individuals from around the world and examining the stories behind these extraordinary cases of spontaneous remission.

From retiree Claire, diagnosed with a violent form of pancreatic cancer and given weeks to live, to 23-year-old Matt, given a 2 per cent chance of surviving a lethal brain tumour. Both rejected chemotherapy and radiation and went home to try to prepare themselves for acceptance and a peaceful death. Both are alive over a decade later, their bodies absent of all tumours.

Dr Rediger doesn't classify people like Claire or Matt as 'flukes' or 'outliers' but has analysed what they - and thousands of others - have done to cure themselves and reveals the common denominators of people who have beaten the odds, unlocking the secrets behind the mind-body connection and discovering the immense power of the immune system.

Inspirational

Dr Rediger gives us hope. He describes moving examples of remission with scientific objectivity, avoiding any suggestion that any single action can result in a miracle cure.

Why is there 1 in a million?

Why do a tiny percentage of people survive terminal illness and the majority do not? That’s the question this books addresses and partially answers.

Research is badly needed in this area, unfortunately big pharma is not interested in providing money for research as there is nothing in it for them. Prolonging illness and suffering is a far better money spinner.
So unless money is put into this vital area, we are dooming people to that fate.

I understand why big Pharma is not interested in this area, but why can’t governments or other big institutions, fund research in this field.

If your emotional and mental health can affect your physical health which we know is true then this power needs to be harnessed for effective healing in a diagnosis of a terminal illness.

It was interesting to listen to the testimonials if those in remission who are actually engaged in their own mortality.
They alone know the clarity only death can bring.

This well researched book, highly recommend.

Life changing data to SIT UP and TAKE IN!

20 years ago, this would’ve been science-fiction or fable or new-age hearsay… Dr Rüdiger, to eliminate doubt, decided to look into verifiable records, of people’s health; particularly what has been referred to as ‘spontaneous remission’, which would otherwise be described as miraculous. …..This data indicates that our lives are literally in our ‘hands’ and more importantly, MINDS.

Essential reading - for the sick and the healthy

I read this book, so excuse the 5star on the performance. This book and it’s contents should be taught at school. In the last few years I have recommended it to countless people. It is essential reading if you have a human body. It’s one of the few books stand out over a life time of reading.

Insightfully awesome

Loved it but struggled to finish.
I must say I am just beginning to develop a reading habit though.
What stood out for me is how the book has helped give rationale reasons for a rationale mind to love and be loved. It has also answered a lot of questions regarding the variations of a good diet, our immune system and the/our relationship to stress particularly in this modern day.

Worth the time to slow done and digest

An extraordinary and insightful
Story of an exhaustive journey into the nature of spontaneous remission. Don’t look for silver bullets - it’s a detailed narrative and one size definitely doesn’t fit all, but no matter what journey on, there’s a path for all to follow in here. Read by the author too which is a massive plus.

Profound

What an amazing book. Hope is such a powerful thing and many are deprived of it when facing an incurable illness for fear of rocking the apple cart.

Thank you Dr Rediger for having the courage to spread this important message. What an amazingly intelligent and intuitive doctor and human you are. This is by far the best book I’ve read on health and healing in a long time.
