Publisher's summary

A seaside paradise. An endless war. Everyone pays in blood.

The cartels in Mexico have splintered, triggering violent conflict over control of the illicit drug trade. One has risen to power above all others with its brutal methods: The Riviera. Led by a shadowy figure known only as Kukulkan, this powerful cartel has become the main source of Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid fifty times more potent than heroin. As mutilated bodies appear on the pristine white sands of local beach communities, investors fear for the worst…their time of peaceful prosperity has come to an end.

When the only son of a wealthy family goes missing in the heart of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, Alex Schofield is sent in to find him. A highly trained ex-Delta soldier, he’s the best man for the job. There’s only one catch: he has sworn to never kill again.

Amid the escalating conflict, a darkness grows among the dense forests and Maya ruins. As the search brings Schofield closer, he must confront his own violent past and decide if bloodshed is once again, the only way.

In this riveting adventure thriller, D.W. Whitlock explores the darker aspects of the human soul and the struggle to do what’s right in a shadowy world defined by violence and death.

Rescue

Schofield isn't your average soldier of fortune. He's a tad older and a thinker and planner. Tasked wiith finding and bringing home the son of a wealthy woman, he fights the drug lords of Mexico, a religious zealot, and tangles with local military. Exciting right up to the very end. I was gifted this from the author.

Intrigue, story twists, a real page turner.

Thank you to D.W. Whitlock for providing me with a copy of this book. Note, the media I used to consume the story is audiobook format. This is my first review of an audiobook story format.

I’ve never read anything by D.W. Whitlock, so I had no idea or preconceived notions of what the story is about or the story approach of the writer. I did do some limited research of Mr. Whitlocks writings and thusly was looking forward to an action packed story.

The story jumps quickly into the history of the Mayan ruins and the underlying drug trafficking throughout the area. The story centered around the kidnapping of a boy that is very important to our hero, a former Delta Forces soldier.

There are many twist, turns, and numerous threads throughout the story. However it wasn’t confusing and added greatly to the story. The story was full of action, thrilling scenes, and cliff hangers that kept me interested.

The author keeps the reader engaged by throwing in twist after twist culminating in an exciting and yes one last twist to the end of the story.

All in all a great read, backed by factual true to location details which greatly added to story. I will be reading more by D.W. Whitlock and hope others take notice.
