Magic is dangerous. I should know. It got me a 30-year sentence scrubbing toilets for a scumbag wizard. My only hope is the Unleashing, a ceremony that unlocks the dormant powers of magical descendants when we turn 18. Since my mom was a lowly psychic, I don’t expect to be blessed with much more than the ability to forecast the weather. But when the sorcerers unlock my magic, all hell breaks loose.

Welcome to Evermore Academy where the magic is dark, the immortals are beautiful, and being human sucks. My name is Summer Solstice and this is going to be my year. Except, in the Everwilde, nothing ever goes according to plan. When the Spring Court heir joins the academy, he traps me in a cutthroat game of bargains and deception in an effort to ruin Valerian. Worse, someone is using an army of darklings to gather magical items that could raise the Darken and change the fate of the Fae courts - and the human world - forever.

Welcome to Darkblood - oops, I mean Darkhen Academy. There are three rules to survive the elite supernatural school: Do not talk or even look at The Seven, the uber-powerful supes that rule the academy. Never go into the Fae forest on a full moon...or else. And most definitely do not fall for one of the extremely hot and unattainable instructors. Too bad I’ve never really been a rule follower...If word gets out that humans are no longer safe from the supes, our worlds will once again be closed off. It’s up to us to stop that from happening.

Story
They are beings with no flaws, divine creatures with power sparking at their fingertips. A race so exceptional that it feels almost forbidden to think about them, especially for someone like me. I’m Rosadette Campbell, a seventeen-year-old girl who has nothing in common with those divine, worshiped beings. No, I’m a human - at least, that’s how we refer to ourselves. We pretend not to hear the litany of degrading slurs other races use to describe our kind. We were the dominant species once, but now we’re considered little more than rats.

I am a latent wolf shifter. Or so I thought. Then, life as I knew it changed in a flash - or more accurately, an electrocution. I’ve woken up in a strange place, surrounded by strange people who hate me. They’re in the middle of a war, and I look like I belong on the wrong side of it. If that’s not enough to qualify as a really bad day, I now have wings and a strange animal to figure out because it turns out that there’s not a damn latent thing about me.

Story
Fae exist only in children’s stories, or so I thought. That was before a nightmarish creature of the Fae Realm dropped into my life. He claimed a seven-pointed mark on my skin signified my magical lineage, the bit of DNA my mother passed down. Days after I arrive in the Fae Realm, I’m thrown into a series of trials titled ‘The Devotion’. I must compete with demons, vampires, elves and more who want to claim their place at the future King’s side. I have no interest in this guy, but it doesn’t help that the King-to-be is a gorgeous, brooding fae.

It was an ordinary job. Another night, another asshole collector of the supernatural. I free some poor little beasties from their cages, pocket a few trinkets to pay my bills, and burn the place down on my way out. Just call me the Robin Hood of monster emancipation. I didn’t count on three manly monsters following me home like lost puppies. Stunningly hot lost puppies, but still. Now I’ve got a seductively cheeky incubus, a sweetly enthusiastic demon, and a grimly stoic angel camped out in my kitchen.

Publisher's Summary
This is one crown you don’t want.
Born and raised in the Dregs, the last thing I expected was the “honor” of being recruited to Crown Princess Academy. And by honor, I mean fighting for my life against the fae that rule our world.
Our first exam is in three weeks, and not every student will make it out alive...don’t these bimbos realize that? I’m not fooled. I know how ruthless the fae can be.
All the princess initiates are captivated by Lucas, the sexy fae crown prince who, in turn, seems fixated on me. He can’t know that I’m actually the most powerful Malice Caster in the Dregs. I’m sure my talents for the Criminal Guild won’t earn me any extra credit in my princess classes.
All my life I’ve stayed one step ahead of the two-faced fae and their Malice, the out-of-control black magic that has nearly wiped out all of humanity. This is my chance to do more than survive - this is my chance to fight back.
I’ll play the crown prince’s game. I’ll wear the tiny initiate crown, dance in my glittering pink dress, survive the deadly exams, and ultimately graduate as the crown princess all while he thinks I’m playing right into his plans.
He’s in for a surprise when I reveal who I am and wipe that sexy, smug grin off his face.... I just hope my heart doesn’t forget he’s the enemy.
Crown Princess Academy: Book 1 is the first of a planned trilogy. As it is a series, there will be a cliff-hanger. This is an upper YA/NA paranormal and fantasy series with enemies-to-lovers romance and HEA.

Dark Fae delight
Do you love dark fae? This deceptively light, airy cover hides a delightfully complex story with a ferociously loyal main character. Penne’s life has been tough, but with her ability to weird Malice, she’s had both freedom and prestige. Lee does a great job capturing her disbelief when Penne finds herself accidentally enrolled at the Crown Princess Academy, learning to utilize light magic that could destroy her Malice, her very identity if she’s not careful. With malicious Fae, Monsters in the woods, and rivals for the crown willing to do whatever it takes to see Penne fail, this is one intriguing adventure from start to finish. I cannot wait to listen to book two!

Such A Great Heroine
Penne is one of the most powerful malice casters in the world and has a heart of gold . I loved the banter between penne and Lucas . I absolutely enjoyed the competition with the crown princess candidates . Finding out who Steel was through me for a loop and I can't wait to learn more about him . I don't know much about Steel but he was always there for Penne so I hope he gets a happily ever after . Lee gave a wonderful performance with all of the characters especially Steel ♥.

Super excited for book 2!
First holy crap that ending! Who is good guy and who is the bad? And is humanity just caught in the middle or will they come out on top with the FMC at the head. The narrator did a great job! Distinguishing between the different characters. I really enjoyed how she did each character. Zeezee is probably my favorite. I really liked the FMC. She is strong and selfless. I was so mad at Lucien during the trials. But I understand why he did it. But was all the planning for nothing??? I need book 2 like now. Penne is strong and her connection to Steal?? And how do Steal and Lucien come into this war. There is so much depth in the characters and the worlds in this world that book 2 could go any way. No way to know!

Love Penne & Lucas!!
Penne is a great heroine. She is a powerful Malice caster and she has to hide her true identity while at the academy. Can she survive her time at the academy? Baby boy Fae, Lucas is the sexy Fae prince who has his eye on Penne. I loved the interaction between Penne and Lucas. I enjoyed learnings about the world and it’s humans, dregs, and Fae. I thought it was a interesting story. While it does leave you in a cliffhanger I don’t think it’s such a bad cliffhanger. Just leaves you wanting more. I listened to the audiobook and I enjoyed listening to Carolyn Lee. She brought another level to the narration. I thought she was a perfect blend for Penne and the other two that are in Penne’s head so to speak. Looking forward to the next installment.

Very enjoyable
I just couldn't stop, once I started. The Journey, Penny found herself on had been more than what she bargained for, but rescuing another person. Holds consequences of some level. Finding herself in the Queen’s class. Penny found friendship through something that was more than light or darkness. As her light and dark now merge together. What strength will she have now when dealing with both the light and dark.

Loved it!
I received a free audiobook copy from the author in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own. If you liked the Selection, you NEED to read this book!! Penne has lived her life in the Dregs, or the bad side of town. As a Malice caster, there isn't much more she can look forward to, especially with the Fae in charge due to their hatred of Malice. But when Penne is selected by one of the Crown Princess crowns, she's in for a new world at Crown Princess Academy. If she wins, she becomes the Crown Princess and one step closer to her goal of overthrowing the Fae. This story alternates between Penne's POV and Crown Prince Lucas. I loved the banter between these two and the fact that they're basically working towards the same goal but don't know it. It was so funny to see them dance around each other, try to manipulate each other all while being ridiculously attracted to each other. Crown Princess Academy was a fun story that constantly made me smile. I loved this world and the characters. I cannot wait to see what will happen in book 2!

I loved it!
I loved this book. The world was unique and I liked how each type of power worked differently than what you would have expected. I enjoyed the dynamic between Penne and Lucas; I found myself grinning during their banter. That being said, I really hope Steel plays a bigger part in the next book. I definitely recommend checking this book out.
