Acerca de esta escucha

In this compelling overview, Adam Jones outlines the history and current extent of key crimes against humanity, and highlights the efforts of popular movements to suppress them. Using examples ranging from the genocides in Darfur and Rwanda to the sex trade of Eastern Europe and the use of torture in the war on terror, Jones explores the progress made in toughening international law, and the stumbling blocks which prevent full compliance with it. Coherent and revealing, this book is essential for anyone interested in the well-being of humanity and its future.

Reseñas editoriales

Adam Jones provides a deep, probing discussion on genocide, torture, rape, and other crimes against humanity plaguing the world from Africa to Eastern Europe. This is a global concern that, as Jones states, the international community has unfortunately been slow to combat, and Jones looks at the history of these crimes through research as well as testimonials from survivors. It's an upsetting topic that is made enlightening by Jones and Adrian Mulraney, who gives a resolute and sober performance. Mulraney's crisp and distinct tone gives the material even greater weight and importance.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“This book will be a must-read... Jones has written a much-needed conceptual overview and call to action which will wake people up to the worst of which humanity is capable.” (Charli Carpenter, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, University of Massachusetts Amherst)
“A remarkable book that is immediately accessible for the novice in the field, or students, and yet also engages with its topic in intellectually interesting ways for the more seasoned reader. Helps chart the way forward for those already thinking about, or tussling with, the horrors of humanity and the seemingly ever evolving capacity to shock the conscience.” (James Gow, Professor of International Peace and Security, King's College London)
