Publisher's summary

High-altitude climbing is difficult enough without supernatural creatures thrown into the mix. Unfortunately for Greg and Quinn, they may have stumbled into just such a situation. A few days into their weeklong trek, they begin noticing strange occurrences. Voices outside their tent, a mysterious hiker off in the distance, and a predator that might be the end of them.

When they don’t arrive home as expected, Greg’s godmother, Ellie Jensen, starts to worry. A search and rescue veteran with years of expertise in the Southern Picket Mountain Range, she sets off in pursuit of the young mountaineers.

Five hundred feet above safety and 1,000 feet below it, can two young climbers manage to survive long enough for help to arrive, or will they become yet more mysterious disappearances on the high mountain peaks?

A Terrifyingly Unique Mixture that Works

This was a refreshing new look into the horror genre for me. Uniquely told from the point of view of each character, this short story combines the adrenaline rush of climbing with the terror of an unknown presence lurking. This combination is very unique for sure, and the author uses a mixture of humor, concise imagery, and graphic terror to render that feeling you get in the wilderness that you're not alone. Story moved along quickly but not without detail and I found myself eager to see what happens next. Not being a climber myself, the book is easy to understand what the characters are doing while they ascend the glacier.

The narrator does a fantastic job as well. Looking forward to more content from the author.

Do not listen before bed!

This was deliciously scary! I'm usually impervious to horror so I started this one in bed... and could not stop! Had to finish it before I could go to sleep. Then it was hard to sleep because it was so spooky! I enjoyed it immensely.

The narrator seemed like not the best choice at first (it's a male POV in the beginning) but she really does nail the spookiness!

Genuinely scarily and genuinely written

The first thing you’ll notice is how genuine the writing is to the adventure/outdoors/climbing aesthetic. It’s clear that the author is writing from a place of passion and experience and it drips off the page.

This is the perfect story to listen to on a cold dreary day in the fall or winter and I love how it tells a complete and satisfying story in a short and digestible manner.

Honestly, some of the most enjoyable listening on this app in a while.
