Publisher's summary

He needs a break. She needs a date. What do a washed-up LA cop and a celebrity hair stylist have in common? Christmas magic.

Fallon McQueen needs a date to a wedding.

The pickings at the speed dating events she's attended are slim indeed, and it doesn't help that she has someone specific in mind.... Then she meets...Santa Claus.

Jack Cooper is tired of the big city. He needs a break from the streets of LA. But when he stops a deadbeat from breaking and entering, he's simply trying to do a good deed. Now he has a hot but crazy blonde asking him to be her date to a destination wedding. If Jack is going to help, they're going to do it his way, and faster than you can say "road trip" Fallon McQueen is on the trip of lifetime....

Cute story

I pretty much agree with other reviewers. I started to quit because the h comes off as really unpleasant during the road trip. The H stays calm and with her but you have to wonder why he would put up with her since he’s doing her a favor and they’re strangers. Hang in there because she mellows once they arrive at her moms and she becomes much more likable after that. I’m glad I stuck with it to the end!

Whiney narrator!

Enjoyed the predictable story. Can’t stand the voice and style of narrator.
I’ll try to avoid her for future books.

Good story, OK narration

I really liked the story but in the first half of the book, the narrator made the lead female character sound angry all the time and I don't think she really was. It really drew attention away from the rest of the book, but I'm glad I stuck with it.

Wonderful holiday story

Is there love at first sight?

This is one of those stories that we fall in love with because they make our hearts warm with love. A fake emergency boyfriend situation and an attempted burglary gone away equal the solution to Fallon's wedding date/boyfriend problem. Jack is at loose ends after quitting his detective position in LA, but is the lucky guy on the spot to apprehend the would-be burglar.

Fallon gets a look at her rescuer (Jack) and boy does he fit the profile she told her mom, and then some. Yum! Jack's finding the view of Fallon quite nice himself but can't help worrying about her safety. Fallon decides to go for it and invites him to be her fake boyfriend and Jack accepts. He's got a few ideas on how this is going to work though.

The two go on the roadtrip, in Jack's new to him red Mustang, up Hwy 1 from L.A. to San Francisco with Jack's planned stops and an unplanned stop. Fallon likes Jack more and more but can't wrap her head around that he's happy to have no plans for his future, not his immediate or long-term. She can't fall for another guy, especially one without plans.

Jack sees that Fallon has been buckled down to the grindstone and lost focus on relaxing. He plans to help her with that but also with standing up for herself. It sounds like everyone is belittling her.

These two are wonderful together even if they are a fake couple. I loved how the story unfolded without being too complicated. It could have easily gotten hung up on details but glided over them. The focus was on them. Fallon's son David came in at moments and her mother came in and out. Her best friend also had a cameo appearance. Otherwise, it was focused on the interaction between them.

They got hot and sexy fast. Oh my!

I liked Jack's pride in his Mexican heritage, family, and traditions. He had been taught manners in how to treat a woman- opening doors, protecting, - but also liked a woman who was strong enough to stand with him, including tell him her mind.

Fallon bloomed under the respect he gave her as a woman and encouragement to demand respect. Her self-respect grew and she started to demand respect. She in turn, kept telling him that he was still a cop. He couldn't stop being one as it was who he was. He was always watching and taking care of others. They gave each other these special gifts of reflections and encouragement.

After the wedding, the next morning they would get up and separate, going their separate ways. She'd stay and celebrate Christmas with her mom and David. Jack would drive to Oregon to his family to celebrate Christmas.

There's so much more to this story. Please read it. It's heart warming.

Narration was good. Pace was good, tones good, and believability good.
Con: Shoewalking on floor was super unbelievable; I thought sound effects had moved past using this fake sound!?!

One of the Best out of the Stsrlight Hill Series

Great story line. Considering there's only so much time for relationships to build, this was written well, pulled at the heart strings a little, easy read. Would read again.
