Story
Jenny was born on October 31st. She’s never gone trick-or-treating or celebrated her birthday beyond an initial taste of frosting that always puts her into a deep, drugged slumber - a sleep that protects her from family secrets and the horrible reality that dark holiday could reveal. Story
Evil rules the mean streets in many guises, waiting in the shadows along the crumbled edges of the mega-cities, where murder is the only crime that leaves a trace for lesser violent acts are simply not reported. Children, the elderly, the slightly and severely damaged make up the homeless. The weak and the helpless are deemed beyond salvation and beneath contempt by all but the strongest and the cruelest who see them as a source of sustenance.

Frank's back on the bridge, dodging sprawling vines as thick as his secrets, crushing the dark fruit beneath his soles as he flees. He must catch the train. Her voice traps him. Story
I am going to die here. My name is Mindy Mason; I’m a student from the University. I volunteered for one experiment; it was to be for one day only. I want to go home now. I hear cries, screams, and shrieks in the night. Some of the voices sound as if they are coming from the pillow under my head, others as if from a radio behind a door in a far room, and yet others come from my dreams, thus layering my terror. I know Wendy has a knife; perhaps she has killed again. How can I stop her?

Millions of threads so thin as to be invisible, so vaporous as to be ductile, drift through the classroom, emitting a chill and leaving a sense of unease. Hidden deep in their cloaks, the Blue Lights analyze the odors that cling to the individual cells of every child, from the top of each little head to the bottom of their ticklish feet and every dark secret place in between, from their gathering brains to their blood-soaked spleens. One girl feels dizzy; one boy throws up.

Life played its horrible games with the girl. As she grew up she devised clever places to hide - inside and outside of her mind. She was tricked by her own illusions; she was caught in traps of her own creation. It began with a kidnapping, a locked room, and the broken doll that was more than a plaything…and always, in the shadows, the dangerous painting from her past waited, threatening to expose her.

An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

Why do I torture myself?
Because I love to be scared. I sat in my car biting my nails listening to this one. It’s short so I was able to listen to the whole thing in one sitting. Caroline Downs used the perfect creepy voice that had me want to pull my knees up for fear of spiders or something else that was going to get me. Every Dona Fox story I listened to is scarier and creepier then the last. I was terrified!

An enjoyably weird little story!
Another odd little trip down a dark path with Dona Fox. I really enjoy this author and her offbeat short stories. She definitely has a knack for loading them with creepiness, which is often lacking in short tales like this. Simple, yet surprisingly unsettling.
I think the narrator really comes across as the disturbed character she is portraying as well.
Write some more stuff Dona!

This is my first Dona Fox story, I have to say she packs a lot of creepiness into 21 minutes, so if you are into creepy short stories, by all means check Dona out. Caroline Downs does a good job of the narrating. I received this audiobook for free and I am voluntarily writing this.

Creepy and unnerving.
This was a great horror story. With the story being written to terrify, and the narrator's delivery, and the overall unease that Dona Fox's work always forces upon the consumer, this is yet another great addition to your library. If you are looking for a quick great horror fiction to digest, this is the way to go!

Terrifying!
This is the second book I’ve listened too by Dona, and I’m not sure my nerves can take anymore!!
The story leaves you feeling disturbed and scared in equal measure and Caroline does all the characters justice!
Just be thankful it’s a short story, as I’m not sure I could make it through a longer one! Lol.
On that note, I’m already looking forward to Dona’s next release, sign me up!! :)

Story
Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

Story
Darkness, both literal and psychological, holds its own unique fascination. Despite our fears, or perhaps because of them, listeners have always been drawn to tales of death, terror, madness, and the supernatural, and no more so than today when a wildly imaginative new generation of dark dreamers is carrying on in the tradition of Poe and Lovecraft and King, crafting exquisitely disturbing literary nightmares that gaze without flinching into the abyss - and linger in the mind long after.
