Dull reads like a textbook for cooking

I'm not sure what the point of this book is/was but it was hard to slog through. The author actually gives us a vocabulary lesson on "obscure" British lingo. However, 90% was already known to Americans in everyday conversation. If you speak with multiple generations of folks and watch Bridget Jones Diary you pretty know the list she presented. It's not just it was an insult to the intelligence and sophistication of the reader but that several minutes are spent straight reading definition of over 20 words. .? ... Was I supposed to be taking notes?

In addition, the character talks about her relationship as a child would, calling her introduction of her current boyfriend as her '1st boyfriend' (wondering why he took offense) and fretting on endlessly about nothing longer being a virgin... zzzzz.
Deep into chapter five, I realized there was little point to the book. It certainly had no romance or humor that is normally expected in a rom-com genre, so I cut my losses.

Narration is one long monotone monolog.... perhaps that is why the content was such a snoozefest. I think it's more a chicken egg thing though.

I loved it

Very moving, transparent, relatable, and helpful, especially for singles. Jessica has a way of writing that is down to earth and interesting. I am going to listen to this book multiple times.

Disappointing

I was hoping for more anecdotes of living in London having lived there for many years, I wanted to use this book to reminisce.
