Publisher's Summary

A new novel from this master storyteller. One beautiful Scottish spring day, Julian Custer comes across the devastating scene of a very recent car crash. Only the passenger has survived : Delia Barrow is confused and badly injured; her name is all she can remember. It seems that Julian is all Delia has. Luckily, Julian is a solicitor, and so begins a voyage of discovery as they try to discover the identity of the passengers in the missing car....

worst review I've ever felt compelled to give

This story had promise, so I stuck with it. I wish I hadn't.
I think the male lead is supposed to be intelligent and debonair, he comes over as arrogant and beyond misogynistic.
The female lead is so badly written I assume the author has never met a woman.
The language and opinions are very out of date.
To be fair, the author was born in the 1920s and perhaps as a 40 something I'm not the target audience.
Download with caution.

Murder and romance

Absolutely loved this , it’s easy going , not many twists and turns that u question the motives etc and was generally nice to just sit and listen to .

Crashed crash

The story was slow to start, held attention in the middle, then degenerated into sex play at the end without finishing the detective story at all. Not an author I will repeat. It would have been better read in a soft highland lilt.

Dated and pedestrian

A reasonable reading of a poorly written story. The prose is heavy: clichés, repetition, stereotypes. In the chapter I just listened to ‘her background on the sheep farm”
must have been mentioned at least 6 times in as many paragraphs.
The plot kept me listening, and the narration. But the prose is dated and heavy with adjectives and off-the-shelf descriptions, so I will not seek out any more by this author.

Dull

The set up was intriguing but unfortunately, for me, it didn’t deliver. I found the plot dull & the characters were not particularly engaging. It was a slow listen without any interesting developments in either storyline or character. The narration was ok. I stuck it out to the end but was glad when it finished, relieved it wasn’t any longer & that it was free.

Excellent story

A book with an exciting story line without too much graphic violence. Very well narrated by a man with an expressive voice. Would like more like this.

Crash

Liked this storyline better than Silent Intruder. Well written and narrated. Worth listening to. I'll definitely look out for more from this author.

Predictable

Not his best book, the storyline felt weak and far fetched, I spent the whole book waiting for a twist, but nothing! Very predictable, and somewhat boring. The narrator while pretty good with accents, sometimes gets them mixed up, giving the English man an aussie lilt.
