Publisher's Summary

A gentleman lacking direction and a vicar's daughter full of conviction have little in common. But as their friendship grows, so do deeper feelings.

Harry Devon, son of a wealthy gentleman who cared more for money than his family, has returned to the family estate at last. Without direction, and lacking the knowledge necessary to run his estate, Harry is prepared to leave it to others to make the difficult decisions. Until he meets the vicar's daughter.

Augusta Ames, who much prefers the childhood nickname Daisy, is preparing to open a school for daughters of poor tenant farmers. In the habit of serving others, Daisy determines to help Harry find his path and place in their community. When he embraces her plan with enthusiasm, their friendship begins to blossom into something more.

But the Devon legacy is regarded with suspicion, thanks to the greed and cruelty of Harry's late father. When the neighborhood finds reason to turn on Harry, will Daisy trust her heart enough to love him still?

While this is the sixth novel in the regency romance series Branches of Love, it can be listened to as a stand-alone romance.

Delightful!

Story: 5 stars

Delightful story of a rich young man who finds purpose in his life and the vicar’s daughter who inspires him.

This was a truly enjoyable listen and I liked how the author took her time to bring about slow changes in her characters and also took her time helping them to get to know one another.

Both characters have some difficult lessons to learn and that makes the book believable, as compared to books where the characters are perfect and hence uninteresting.

Narrator: 4.5 stars

Ms. Breton does an excellent job of bringing this book to life. Her cadence, expression and male (and female) voices are very well done!

Lovely Story

I loved how well the narrator read this story. I also loved how sweet the romance was between Daisy and Harry. I loved how they came to really see and understand each other. Sally does such a good job with her books!

Full of charm, wit and sweet romance!

What a charming story. I'll admit that I haven't read all of the books in this series. I started with Miss Devon's Choice and then this one. But I've been eyeing this series since the first book came out. I have almost all of them and am looking forward to going back and reading about these characters. After Miss Devon's Choice and reading about her younger brother Harry, I've been wondering about his story and was very excited when I learned that this was his book. I listened to the audiobook while I was doing projects around the house. My children are home and I have to say that my older ones were following me around while I was working because they wanted to hear the story and were hooked by it just like me.

This was a great coming of age story. Harry and Daisy have very different backgrounds. But they have several commonalities. They both desire to help others. I loved their characters. They are both so good. Even through their misunderstandings and mistakes I loved watching them accept their mistakes and try to fix them.

I really loved Harry's family. The more I think about the little glimpses that I've had of them has me wanting to go devour their stories now. Fabulous characters, great settings and the lessons that are shared through Sally Britton's writing is well worth the time. I've read/listened to several of her books now and really love her writing style. She's an author that I highly recommend if you're looking for a new author.

There were so many sweet moments in this book. As well as humorous and emotionally touching moments. I thoroughly enjoyed them all. I laughed and smiled a lot during this book. Finally being able to immerse myself into Harry's story satisfied my expectations for his story. He needed someone who was just a gentle and kind as himself and Daisy was definitely that and so much more. I loved how Harry struggled to find what he should do and Daisy was able to offer support and guidance in ways that she didn't realize. Harry wasn't afraid to step up and fix what needed fixing even through the frustration of the townspeople jumping to conclusions about his character. Good job Harry in persevering and showing them who you truly are!

Lovely story

The characters are flawed and still such good people. Kindness and generosity are so important to their choices. Her books are quickly becoming my favorites as the messages and what the characters learn are so interesting to watch unfold.

Good, but I like her other ones better

I like this author’s work, but this one, though charming, seems less developed than others and filled with long stretches of scene details. Like how detailed and long it takes to get a cat down from a tree or too long of a scene about getting berries. Aside from those few types of things, this is a sweet read, if a little slower going than some of her others. Harry is delightfully open to learning, and his sisters are fun side characters. One note to the author (if you read reviews) is that I hope you can avoid the habit of letting “over explaining” creep in for future books. For example, Harry sees the curate talking to Daisy and implies he wants to subtly get their attention. So he walks over to them and clears his throat. At that point, you don’t need to tell us he cleared his throat to get their attention, as you’ve already implied that intention in the previous sentences. Trust your readers enough to keep up with what’s going on in a scene. If you accidentally put in those annoying explaining moments, you must hire a good editor to catch them.

Wonderful courtship

Loved Harry's story. His friendship with Daisy is a delight. He finds his true self and purpose. Loved "seeing" a little of his siblings and cousins lives included. Sally Britton does not disappoint.

Courting the Vicar's Daughter

I really enjoyed listening to this book. I have liked Harry since the beginning. I glad he found his way and purpose. Very good clean romance. Narration was very good too.

Nothing special.

A gentle story, easy to listen too, it ties up loose ends finishing the series. Lots of familiar characters included.
The Heroine and Hero get along well, he the pupil, she the teacher. They have a small misunderstanding, everyone learns humility. They make it up, I think this was put in to extend the story.

A cute finish to the series

The narration of this book brought the story to life. Although there was no real problems to overcome, the story was cute and clean and lovely to listen to. I really enjoyed the entire series. I look forward to going back and listening or reading them all again.

A thoroughly enjoyable addition to the series!

Sally has done it again! I loved this story - in fact I thoroughly enjoyed this entire series. I’m rather sad that it’s come to an end but I am eagerly looking forward to her next book.
Each story in this series leaves you feeling happy and content, with the content being clean and wholesome.
I would definitely recommend these books to anyone who enjoys reading novels set in the Regency Era. I also highly recommend that your read the series in the proper sequence, as there are characters from previous books mentioned in each of the books that follow on.
Happy listening!

Good clean read

This one's a little slower than others in this series, but it's still good.

Overall the narrator is good, but like another reviewer stated, I found her voice unnecessarily too happy many times throughout. And it was often when she was reading the story, not actually doing a character's voice. A bit distracting but otherwise ok.

Nice romance

I really enjoyed this book and this series. It was lovely to read books that didn’t need gratuitous sex to make for a pleasant read and just a good story as well. Bravo Ms Britton
Also well read by Kim Bretton
I would definitely recommend this book which is a stand aloe, but also a lovely finalisation to the series.
