Publisher's summary

Courage to Grow tells how a small school in Austin, Texas, sparked a worldwide awakening of families, who believe every child deserves to find a calling that will change the world.

In an age where Google shares information, Uber shares cars, and Airbnb shares rooms, Acton Academy turns learning upside down by equipping children to share learning with each other, in a close-knit community with extremely high standards of excellence.

Word of Acton's transformative impact is spreading, family by family. Over 50 Acton Academy affiliates span the globe, with applications pending from more than 6,300 entrepreneurial parents who want to start a learner-driven community.

Courage to Grow is not a "how to" book, but a fast-paced story of courageous families who found more compelling ways to learn and grow. Along the way, parents and children discovered the questions, tools, and frameworks we all need to forge a stronger character and supercharge human potential.

Like all good tales, Courage to Grow has a surprise ending, a final lesson you won't want to miss about parenting and the courage required to live life to its fullest.

Encouraging & Motivating

I’ve been seeking something different for my children, as well as the students I teach. So many times, I get asked “what’s the point of all this,” when referring to 9-12 grades. This concept has given me insight as to how I can possibly begin something that would have that point.

A Work of Art

Laura Sandefer speaking in her own words about the revolutionary, game changer that is Acton Academy is as much artwork as it is deeply informative. The Acton model is seemingly years ahead of any other educational model in preparing children for tomorrow’s future, and it is only getting better. The network is growing at a meteoric rate, and yet this beautifully told story details a family’s journey to fill a need for their own children had an incredibly humble beginning. For an experienced educator like me who wants more for my children, this compelling, empowering and concise audiobook serves as a roadmap and fuel to get started on your own Hero’s Journey. I cannot recommend it high enough and I cannot thank Laura enough for opening her heart to the world in this instant masterpiece.

What School Could Be

Apologies to Ted Dintersmith for stealing the title of his famous work.

This simply is just the way education should be in a dynamic, innovative, and liberated society. I really have nothing more to add.

Earth Shattering

The story was personal; the journey was visionary; the outcome was inspiring; how is Charlie now? Did his need to forge his own path come with insights for the future? “Sam” is a great name for a middle child, just an FYI. I got the audible version and look forward to reviewing the “kit” you’ve developed because I am a learning content creator myself so I’ll have to order the print copy. Please check out my book Leading with Leadership by Samuel T Lewis and J.R. Reffert. I align with you completely.

REALLY considering Acton

Nothing like hearing the whole story of the founding of, ramping up, and expansion of this concept. Even more real was the family’s own struggle to affirm their older son’s discovery of what’s best for him. Answered many of the questions I’ve had about the school.
