Acerca de esta escucha
Can joy come from suffering?
We think of suffering as the worst of all evils. Our culture tells us to avoid it at all costs. But can suffering produce growth in us when we learn to endure it...then value it...then allow God to redeem it?
John Perkins’ response to suffering at the hands of a white sheriff in a Mississippi jail became the springboard that God used to put him in front of US presidents, international politicians, and evangelical church leaders. Perkins sees endurance in suffering as a virtue that makes us more like Christ and ultimately produces uncommon joy in the heart of the sufferer who trusts in him. Christ walked the path of love all the way to the cross, and even in the midst our brokenness, we can do the same.
In Count It All Joy, you will be encouraged to lean into suffering when it comes your way, stand alongside others who suffer, and believe that God will repurpose your suffering according to his good plan. God doesn’t intend your life to be free of all suffering. Instead, he wants you trust him in the midst of it and discover the unexpected joy that trials can produce.

We are living in historic times. Not since the Civil Rights Movement of the '60s has our country been as vigorously engaged in the reconciliation conversation. There is a great opportunity right now for culture to change, to be a more perfect union. However, it cannot be done without the church, because the faith of the people is more powerful than any law government can enact.

Historia
John Perkins, founder of Voice of Calvary ministries, was born in New Hebron, Mississippi, in 1930. His family was made up of sharecroppers, and he grew up in grinding poverty, part of a system that preserved prejudice and racism. After his brother was killed, Perkins left Mississippi for California, where he found job opportunities, racism of another kind, and faith in Jesus Christ. He returned to Mississippi to share the gospel and help his own people find equality, justice, and economic independence.

The belief that all lives matter is at the heart of our founding documents - but we must admit that this conviction has never truly reflected reality in America. Movements such as Black Lives Matter have arisen in response to recent displays of violence and mistreatment, and some of us defensively answer back, "All lives matter". But do they? Really? This audiobook is an exploration of that question.

For decades Jason Wilson was losing the war within - the internal battle that many men wage daily but were never taught how to win. As a result, he could not combat his toxic thoughts and emotions. Instead, he was conquered by them and communicated without composure - hurting those he loved and himself. This went on until he renewed his mind by releasing years of past trauma. His life and relationships were transformed when he learned how to master his emotions and express them with self-control. In the process, Jason became a better husband, father, and leader.

To some, the concept of having faith in a higher power or a set of religious beliefs is nonsensical. Indeed, many view religion in general, and Christianity in particular, as unfounded and unreasonable. 6Norman Geisler and Frank Turek argue, however, that Christianity is not only more reasonable than all other belief systems, but is indeed more rational than unbelief itself. With conviction and clear thinking, Geisler and Turek guide listeners through some of the traditional, tested arguments for the existence of a creator God.

How did the world arrive at its current, disorienting state of identity politics, and how should the church respond? Historian Carl R. Trueman discusses how influences ranging from traditional institutions to technology and pornography moved modern culture toward an era of "expressive individualism." Investigating philosophies from the Romantics, Nietzsche, Marx, Wilde, Freud, and the New Left, he outlines the history of Western thought to the distinctly sexual direction of present-day identity politics and explains the modern implications of these ideas.

Jackie grew up fatherless and experienced gender confusion. She embraced masculinity and homosexuality with every fiber of her being. She knew that Christians had a lot to say about all of the above. But was she supposed to change herself? How was she supposed to stop loving women, when homosexuality felt more natural to her than heterosexuality ever could?

There are far too many Christians who are walking around dejected, depressed, hopeless, powerless, and in bondage to the flesh. Yet this is not what the Christian life is or should be. Though we will experience difficulties, in the midst of these things we are not powerless and without hope. The most powerful thing we can do in our lives is pray. Join Pastor Carter in this book as he looks at the lesson Jesus gives us in Mark 9 - along with some of his own personal experiences and testimonies - and how it relates to us, our walk with God, and our impact on the world.

A powerful must read.
I strongly recommend reading this book by John Perkins. This is the second book I've purchased from him, and it was both enlightening and inspirational. It’s the kind of book that compels you to revisit it reading and listening to it over again.
The book encouraged me to take a deeper look at the scriptures John referenced, particularly from the book of James. I was captivated by his personal life journey, especially his activism during his younger years and the fact that he’s still going strong at the age of 90, at the time this book was written.
What also stood out to me was his remarkable marriage of over 72 years—a testament to his enduring faith and dedication. This book has inspired me to reflect on how I can live my life better and with greater purpose.
