Short But Packed

It’s nice to listen to a short story, for a change. This one fits just right. It’s short but the story has some substance, even a serious one. Dealing with what it’s like for first responders and law enforcement officers in the closet, what they feared coming out and some sad truths about people’s ignorance & cruelty. It’s very written. Drake’s internal debate monologue was getting to be irritating sometimes but I’m glad he did right by Grady and did right by Adam.
The level of steam is good too. The epilogue was hot.
Can’t wait to listen to the second book. I enjoyed Scott Smith’s narration.

Cops, cakes, and coffee

Drake lost a bet and wound up having to read a poem written that’s rather embarrassing. He meets a cute bartender named Adam and finds him attractive. He also has to decide if he wants more than merely a one night stand and if this is worth coming out. It was a cute and sweet story.

Steamy Insta-Love Story But Beware of Triggers

Policeman Drake loses a bet that results in a win when the awful poetry he has to read at a bar's open-mic night snags bar owner Adam's undivided attention. The two waste no time in diving full steam ahead into a very steamy, passionate, and patient insta-love relationship.

Their quickly moving and largely sweet love story isn't without a fair bit of angst, though, stemming from Drake not being out at work and some homophobic peripheral colleagues. The latter culminates in the on-page physical and verbal assault of two characters, which really should warrant a trigger warning in the book blurb (and had there been, I likely would've rated this story a bit higher).

I was impressed by new-to-me narrator Scott R. Smith's performance, and his delicious voicing of Adam in particular. I received this free review copy audio book by request and have left this honest review voluntarily.

quick insta love

This is a series that I don’t mind listening to. It’s a quick insta-love insta-connection series that I do adore. The attraction is mutual, and Drake doesn’t know what to think about Adam. But he takes a chance and they hit it off. As they get to know each other there is chemistry which I love. Adam takes Drake in when he is hurt after trying to stop a fight. This allows the two to be closer and get to know each other. Feelings develop fast and isn’t too far out there, I am ready to read more from this series.

When you know, you know…

This is what Drake and Adam keep telling to themselves while rushing into insta-everything: a relationship, after meeting one evening; Drake’s coming out; living together…
I cannot say that this is my favourite by this author, but considering that most of their books have left me a sobbing mess, this one is a short, sweet diversion.
Really good performance by narrator Scott R. Smith!

Loved !

First time listening to this author and narrator. I really enjoyed the story. It was short yet still had character development. It showed both the sides of discrimination and acceptance. There Was several sexy scenes which gets your blood pumping.

The narrator did a great job.

Fun, quick story

This is a great short story. I liked that it had a point of making choices. Does Drake stand up for what he believes in or stay in the closet. When he is almost given no choice he proves to be fearless. This is a fun story when you don’t want to get too involved yet want a complete story. It left me happy at the end and looking forward to the next. The narrator Scott Smith brought these characters to life and put plenty of emotion into the story. I was given a free copy and this is my voluntary review.

I loved this one too much

I knew going in that this was a gay romance. What I didn't expect was that it mostly gay positive. I only say mostly because a firefighter in this story is beaten just for being gay. His friend is a cop who is also gay but has a new boyfriend who is scared he will leave him. The cop, Drake, was not out at the time, and he was beaten up for trying to save his firefighter friend. There's soooo much to unpack in this story, but I was left feeling wonderful about how they each help and love each other.

Short, hot and fun

A closeted cop and a police force whose bigoted. Hence why he's closeted still.
A coffee shop owner and a gay fireman. Mix them all up, and you have a short story.

Although it's sweet and fun, there's also anger and beatings. Good story, well worth the read / listen.

This book is well written, hot and fun. HEA. Good narration from Scott Smith. Although, like usual, I sped up the audio, and I listened at 1.35 speed on audible.

nice short novella

Nice short novella. It's a bit of "insta love" and doesn't have a too deep, complex plot, but that's got to be expected by the shortness of the story. Nonetheless enjoyed it very much. Good writing style and likeable characters. Good voice actor!

Good Story 💜

This story was well written for a short story. This would have made a terrific full length novel. The characters have amazing chemistry and with the drama, romance & emotions this book has everything.
Narration was perfect.
This is book 1 with an HEA!
