Publisher's summary

In this gritty and gripping new audiobook in the number-one New York Times best-selling series, Eve Dallas fights to save the innocent - and serve justice to the guilty - on the streets of New York.

Homicide cop Eve Dallas and her billionaire husband, Roarke, are building a brand-new school and youth shelter. They know that the hard life can lead kids toward dangerous crossroads - and with this new project, they hope to nudge a few more of them onto the right path. For expert help, they hire child psychologist Dr. Rochelle Pickering - whose own brother pulled himself out of a spiral of addiction and crime with Rochelle’s support.

Lyle is living with Rochelle while he gets his life together, and he’s thrilled to hear about his sister’s new job offer. But within hours, triumph is followed by tragedy. Returning from a celebratory dinner with her boyfriend, she finds Lyle dead with a syringe in his lap, and Eve’s investigation confirms that this wasn’t just another OD. After all his work to get clean, Lyle’s been pumped full of poison - and a neighbor with a peephole reports seeing a scruffy, pink-haired girl fleeing the scene.

Now, Eve and Roarke must venture into the gang territory where Lyle used to run and the ugly underground world of tattoo parlors and strip joints where everyone has taken a wrong turn somewhere. They both believe in giving people a second chance. Maybe even a third or fourth. But as far as they’re concerned, whoever gave the order on Lyle Pickering’s murder has run out of chances....

As Eve would say WTF

As Eve would say WTF. The story great, all the plot twist and turns great. BUT..The audio recording was absolutely horrible. It sounded like all those really cheaply produced audio books I run into some time. The volume levels were all over the place. High , then low and muffled, fuzzy. I look forward to the twice a year release of the In Death books. I listen to them many times, until the next one is released. I was so dissapointed. I really don't care about some cute contest. Waste of money Someone should have been paid to proof listen, that would have been money better spent. IMHO

Same as always

Eve saves the day. Eve and Rourke get hot and steamy. Everybody else is funny and easygoing. These books are always the same for the most part, but I’ll never miss one and I love this series!

She's done it again!!!!!

I listened to it in less than 24 hours. I just could not put it down. It shows Eve has a lot of compassion but she is very much a force to be reckoned with. I love the way Crack's character has developed. WELL DONE J B ROBB.

Great read

Dallas is steadfast and admirable as ever in her mission to take care of "hers". Peabody's amazing as ever. Roarke's continued support of Dallas and the NYPSD in his own mission to "give back" is heartwarming.

Its Still So Good After 48 Books

48 books in this series and yet am still in love with this series and always look forward to the next installment. This book was sweet for the fact that we have a new romance for one of my favorite characters. Also it shows how great Eve is at her job for she looks beyond what she sees. For Lyre is a recovering addict who kicked his gang and was on the straight, and was doing everything right. That was until his sister Dr. Rochelle Pickering found him with a needle and looking like he overdosed. Lyre death leads Eve and team to two gang territories in the seedy part of New York and try find the answer and to stop a gang war coming to head.

I love that in this book we see more of the friends/coworkers of Eve Dallas as it takes a whole team to help with this case. Love that the relationships are still the same and makes me smile and laugh throughout listening to. Eve and Roarke worked pretty much this whole book together since it was kind of personal since it effected one of their friends.

Also if you listen to this audiobook there is a puzzle kind of element which is a first for a in death series. The one good thing that never change other than the humor/friendships/and the romances the narrator stays the same. Susan Ericksen is the first reason that i feel in love with this series. For how she brings voices to each of the characters and just love how she brings these series to life.

until the next book later on this year.

loved it! I think it's great to keep the same narrator throughout the series. j.d. Robb never lets you down with the story content. you don't want the story to end.
