Publisher's summary

There will come a day when love will mark you as a traitor. In a society where emotions are nothing and function is everything, Avlyn Lark is just trying to blend in. She's lucky to be alive, unlike her twin brother Ben who died when they were four. And she's lucky to have been taken from her biological parents and assigned to a Level Two family. But mastering her emotions? That's a problem, especially when a rebel bomb blows up a building right in front of her. Then on Configuration Day, Avlyn's official transition to adulthood, she starts seeing strange visions. And instead of being placed with a low-level tech company where she could hide away, she's hired by Genesis Technologies, the government firm that monitors every citizen. Now, instead of blending in, Avlyn fears she'll be exposed for what she really is. If Gen Tech finds out how deeply she feels, it will ruin her life. And if they find out about her secret meetings with a mysterious but handsome member of the rebel forces, her life will be more than ruined. It will be over.

Starts out "clinical", but expands beautifully

Configured starts out "clinical" sounding, both in the text and audiobook, but as we watch Avlyn grow & expand her mind it becomes a story that will suck you in and leave you wanting more! I really liked how the narrator brought this personal growth to life by expanding the emotion in her voice as the book went along.

YA Dystopian

I enjoyed this book immensely. The main character is a brave and strong young woman. Her families past choices force her to fight for her future. The story has a nice flow and the author did an excellent job of world building. The narrator has a pleasant voice and did a good job portraying the story.I received an audiobook from the author for review.

Fast Paced - Where is book 2!!!!!????

Quick and easy listen that keeps enough action that you never get bored. There is definitely a 'set up' of story lines but it works well. Looking forward to book 2...and 3!

Wish I could listen to the other two!

This book is so captivating! It’s a huge bummer that audible would put the first book of a trilogy, but not the other two!

Different approach to post apocalyptic world

Was a new refreshing take on the dystopian post apocalyptic world. The story and characters seemed real and not forced . The storyline progresses in a reasonable manor and only a few minor bumps of slowness or extra fluff not related to the story. Avlyn journey seems reasonable and her actions and reactions also seem realistic. The ending of the book wasn't your normal cliffhanger which is somewhat refreshing and different. More of a chapter ending than a book ending. But I think I like it for this book. Overall was a good book.

Unexpectedly good

Great story. Dystopian Divergentish. I really enjoyed this. Listened to it straight through. Narration was very professional. Clean and it was as if I was reading it in my own head. Off to book 2.

Fascinating story!

Voice: everything is pronounced well, the narrator uses somewhat different types of voices for the characters so conversations are easy to follow as well. Very comfortable voice to listen too, natural intonation for when the main character is questioning something for herself or recollecting certain events. And no breathing into the mic whatsoever so very nice audiobook!

Story: I started this book with a little bit of curiosity or worry/wondering whether this would be a close fit to Matched by Ally Condie but this story stands on it’s own, not in another books’ shadow. Not that I read a huge amount of dystopian futuristic storylines where the government has taken drastic measurements to ensure the survival of the human race. But even though the people are indoctrinated to that certain way of life, they’re not so naive or oblivious as in some other books so I did love that aspect.
But eventhough she adds her own things and stuff, of course there are some similar aspects compared to the other, similiar stories. In my eyes, that can’t be avoided, so much has been written already. The new things she added felt very natural. They might not be new to you though, I don’t think I read 10 books in this genre so maybe not enough to compare it too. But I loved the characters, the realism of what can happen with rebels and can’t wait to see how the story will develop. Keeping it vague her because I would be spoilering otherwise.

The mix of everything that this author put in this book works well together and keeps you interested to know what happens next. It does not end with a huge cliffhanger, for which I thank the author, I love an ending with a promise for a sequel but not the sort of cliffhanger that keeps you up at night because you just want to know how it will end (well, it would keep me up lol).
There are some interesting parts that I imagine will be revealed in book 2 so I’m so glad I have book 2 lined up to listen too after writing this review!
Even though I often need to read other books in between a series (I do like change), I have no problem reading (well, listening in my case) book 2 right after finishing book 1. So that on it’s own says enough. I’m greatful I found this series.

Chilling and engaging story!

In a world of pure logic and emotional control, some people are fighting for something more. This author has created one of those deceptively perfect dystopias that inmates can call perfect if they want to. But things are changing.

We see the world through the eyes of a young woman beginning her adult life, and still young enough to see her world as something that can change. She yearns for something more than her existence, but can't put a name to it. Until she's shown what she was looking for by a rebel.
This is an engaging narrative in a chilling world. The characters are well-rounded and interesting, and the storyline is plausible. An enjoyable listen, especially for the YA crowd.
