Publisher's Summary

As far as the eye can see is a vast, empty horizon. Evie Teale has finally accepted that her husband won’t be coming home. To make ends meet she runs a temporary stage station. But though she is diligent and careful, Evie must prepare for the day when the passengers no longer come and she must protect her children in an untamed country where’s it’s far easier to die than to live.

Miles away, another solitary soul battles for survival. Conagher is a lean, dark-eyed drifter who is not about to let a gang of rustlers push him around. While searching the isolated canyons for missing cattle, he finds notes tied to tumbleweeds rolling with the wind. The bleak, spare words echo Conagher’s own whispered prayers for companionship. Who is this mysterious woman on the other side of the wind? Conagher only hopes he can stay alive long enough to find her.

Great story

Well it’s a great little novel , one of his more romantic stories and the movie 1991 staring Sam Elliot and kathrine Ross is one of the few times where the movie and the book are almost completely in sync. Jason cult has read many Louis La’mour stories and does a great job, however he wouldn’t have been my choice for Conagher. Nonetheless it is a great way to pass the time. And worth a credit.

Favorite Louis L’Amour!

I really enjoy this story! Good pace, good story line. Action and romance. A few facts and details are wrong, but it didn’t take away from how much I loved this story!

Very good , I want to be like Con. A great man with great integrity. A man to follow a man that has your back.

Very cool

I listened non-stop, and I was thoroughly entertained on my long ride from New Mexico to Dallas, TX. This book made time fly.

a great Louis L'Amour Western.

This is one of my favorite Louis L'Amour westerns and it's well performed. it's a fun story. why isn't that you can't leave a review without comments of at least 15 words. it seems like you have to make up words to fill in the space. to me it's also interesting how many people give it how many stars I don't always need a lot of text.

Different but fine story

It opened with unexpected elements that out me off at first, but soon became intriguing and then really fine. Another LaMour great.

One of my favorite books.

The best Louis L'Amour book of all. I've read this book many times and I've never gotten tired of it. If you've never read it do yourself a favor and do so. You won't regret it.

One of the best

I’ve read most of not all of Louis Lamour’s books over the years. It was an aural pleasure listening to this story as it is one of my favorites(couldn’t choose just one if I tried).
Two people searching for the other and never realizing it until the end. The story line is so engaging that I had to listen to it until end.

thoroughly entertaining

A sweet story well told and I felt I was living out there in that desolate place.
As an 85 year old Englishman I grew up with stereotypes such as Gary Cooper and Conagher.
America.......alas no more.
