it is a good general overview of software languages; but lacks depth in differentiating between languages.

Not For Beginners

The book in hard-copy may be suitable for beginners but not in audio format!

If listening to a dry reader reading lists is your thing - get this book.

Deceiving Subtitle.

I guess it's partly my fault, but the length of the book should have given it away. In a nutshell, it is a very short, brief description of each language its respective history. Should be named Computer programming languages overview, not computer programming for beginners. You will definitely not learn anything useful in the sense of actually programming anything. This book can easily be replaced by a brief, shallow google search.

I am trying to write a SQL statement !

I am trying to write a SQL statement that would count the total number of pay dates for each employee. The examples in the book were great, but I wish there were more regarding what I deal with.

A someone who works in the tech startup world,

A someone who works in the tech startup world, I always like to have a working knowledge of the programming languages used by colleagues and friends. "SQL: Ultimate Beginner's Guide" is a fantastic resource and guide to SQL for beginners! There is a clear explanation of terminology, examples of how to use it, and a very methodical guide to help you know what to expect when you use certain queries. This is a fantastic guide!

I spent my business career working in SQL

I spent my business career working in SQL environment and relational data base software. I have been trying to entice one of my sons to pursue a computer career beyond video games. This is the best book I have found for anyone who thinks they might be interested in computers as a career option. Despite being an MIT grad, the author is able to break down SQL into an understandable and approachable subject. Hope it tempts my sons to learn more.

Highly recommend this book.

I've always had trouble with joins and this book explains them in such a way that I doubt I'll ever have issues again. Highly recommend if you are familiar with databases in general.
